Navy Supply Corps Challenge Coin

One of our goals with creating challenge coins is to improve on what is already provided. Often we see that a lot of different commands and groups don’t have high quality images for their logos and designs. We take what they already have created, improve on the vividness of the designs, and then create a high resolution image that can be used for any type of media. We then take that image and provide it to our customers free of charge so that they can use it in the future for anything they may need, such as in electronic media or in the design of future products with that logo. We personally use those images to make their coins, so we know that the quality of the image can be used for any type of media.

The supply challenge coin was one of these instances that the logo and design was out dated. We took what they already had and digitized the image which created the image to being a higher resolution and allowing us create an amazing challenge coin. With our professional artist and design team, this whole process can take less than a few hours, showing our customers not only a great looking graphic, but a sense of what their custom challenge coin will look like once its complete. Since our artists have a certain artistic mindset as well, they can link colors and design features together in such a way that it will be aesthetically pleasing in the final product, an aspect of coin design that is often overlooked.

With our Ready For Sea Supply Corps Challenge Coin, we really hit the mark. This coin is one of our own designs, and we get routinely asked for individual coin to be sold to the public. We are able and willing to do so with this coin, but for the vast majority of our coins–particularly those that you work with us on–we will never permit anyone to reproduce that coin. This coin is just one of many we have designed for the Navy. We have designed coins for Ball events, carriers, various ships, air wings, smaller departments, and numerous officer and enlisted individuals to use for promotions, informal awards, or retirement ceremonies. We know a great deal about all armed forces branches, but we know the most about the Navy since we are all Navy veterans.

Federal Bureau of Prisons

We designed this coin for a group of police officers in the Fort Worth area. We wanted to make something unique for them in the sense that their logo would be improved upon and also the colors shown would represent the culture of the area. Texas is a huge part of people’s lives that are from Fort Worth, and you can see some of those features strongly represented in this custom challenge coin. In particular, the Texas state flag, the Longhorn, and an outline of the state itself. On the from is the Federal Bureau of Prisons logo.

When we designed this coin we wanted to make sure to meet the customers wishes of having a professional look but also having the freedom of design. When you look at this coin you can see the elegance and symbolism that represents our customer and the colors were vibrant and present in each area. We then repeated this process for each additional coin manufactured.

Overall the challenge coin turned out to be an impressive design, and our customer was happy with what they received from us. This coin is one of many law enforcement challenge coins we have done. Among some of the many others we have done are: Sheriff and police challenge coins, homeland security, FBI, Veterans Affairs and Treasury Police Departments, amongst many others.

Chief of Naval Reserve 100 Years

When the Chief of the Naval Reserve asked us to make a coin for them, it was a huge deal for us to work with an O-9. More than we already normally do, we wanted to make something that represented what they were trying to achieve and which would have a very high degree of professionalism and perfection. The coin was to be designed for the 100 year anniversary and to be given to high ranking officials, people involved in the celebration, and also anyone else that who the Admiral wanted to give the coin to. We ended up creating a custom shaped coin that implemented some designs of the Navy as well as the celebration itself.

The front highlights the 100 with some unique color combinations to give an extra bit of impressiveness, with a 3D anchor down the center. The back includes some other important words and features, along with a grainy texture on the back. The texture is something not often thought about when it comes to making challenge coins, but can add an additional surprise and aspect to a coin. And when it comes to textures, just as with everything else we do, the sky is the limit with us. If we haven’t done it before, we will do our best to put a texture into your coin in as close a way that you want as we can. And while most people think about a texture that protrudes out, we have done many coins with textures that actually recess into the coin. We can do it all! If you can think it, we can do it.

It was a great pleasure to see a coin made by Embleholics on TV, especially on the Tonight Show, because we are a small company and take great pride in our work. Seeing it featured on national television was a great feeling. While on the show, the Chief of Naval Reserve enlisted a number of Naval Reservist on TV and provided this challenge coin to Jimmy Fallon. Another great thing about this was that it helped introduce the idea of what a challenge coin is to many people who had no idea. Although everyone in the military knows what challenge coins are, very few civilians have any idea they even exist or why they do, so that was great to see here as well.

Master Chief Petty Officer Challenge Coin

Creating a challenge coin for a Master Chief Petty Officer is a big deal. It’s a big deal because sailors who receive this coin will often remember it for the rest of their lives. Since one of us served directly with this person, Master Chief Brannon, we wanted to make sure to make it had a lasting positive impression on whoever received the coin.

This design was completely custom in the sense that it has symbolism and artwork that represents the individual who ordered the coin and their entire military service. The waves on the front of the coin represents the women in the Navy, because this Master Chief was one of the first women who joined the Navy and was allowed to serve on the ships. She also wanted her rating and job to be represented on the coin. On the back side we make sure to include her rank, and what she did on the ship she was on at the time. The coin turned out to be truly beautiful and we were lucky to receive one of her coins directly from her as a special gift.

As you can tell, the image of the Master Chief herself, the rating, and the Master Chief symbol are all 3-dimensional, while the edge is a roped edge commonly found among challenge coins. We at Embleholics are able to transform almost any idea and image in a 3D rendering on the coin, and generally these almost always turn out outstanding looking.

USS Nimitz Unique Challenge Coin

A Unique Challenge Coin Design

With this coin we wanted to do something very unique and different, something those who receive would appreciate the level of detail that went into making it. We wanted to take the standard command coin and turn it into something that people would look at and automatically desire. This would require an intense 3D design with multiple 3D features, a custom cut out look, and a design that incorporated symbolism, thought, and detail into each feature.

We included the 5 stars due to Admiral Nimitz–who the carrier was named after–being a Fleet Admiral and incorporated it into the outside of the coin. It shows the cutout as being the edge of the coin. We can also see that the carrier in the center of the coin is riding on waves that are oak leafs which represents the supply chain management required in order to make the ship move forward. If you look closely, you can even see gold anchors at the front of the carrier. We also included the different aircraft on the front of the coin and included a helo flying off in the distance. All of these features come out of the coin at a staggering height, giving the coin a dynamic feel and impressive depth, making the person looking at the coin feel as though the carrier is coming towards them.

On the back this design from the front translates directly, using the same attention to detail on the back side of the coin. In place of stars, five aircraft that would be found aboard. This was a very creative use of the coin’s space, something which is important to consider when making a coin with a cutout shape. In this way, both sides have a natural flow, with no out of place empty gaps. The carrier’s battle flag, motto, and a roped edge with creative placement of a knot in the center rounds out the back of the coin.

Overall this coin took a lot of work to make and design, but it was worth it and our customers were extremely happy. Given the care that went into making this coin, it will surely go on to be one of the ship’s favorite coins and many crew members will keep this custom challenge coin for years to come. Seeing a coin like this will likely make many people wowed, and wonder how it was designed.
