As much as we always try our best to design our custom challenge as unique and as exclusive as possible, there are always clients that challenge us with interesting concept, and this custom challenge coin which is also a bottle opener, is one of them. This kind of projects reminds people that anything functional could also look marvelous.

Ordered by the 321st Air Mobility Operations Squadron, we tried to make coin to not look like a regular bottle opener, while maintaining the structure and functionality. We put the logo of the squadron on the front of the coin, and placed the squadron’s graphic insignia on the back, with a cool retro looking skull to frame it.

At a glance you wouldn’t recognize it as a bottle opener, especially with the embossed and painted details on it. It looks like a very colorful and elegant badge, until you realize that it has a ‘tooth’ on a side of the hollowed center. We’re happy that our design could be brought on fun occasions, not just staying on a frame or on a shelf.

Air Force Challenge Coin

We received an order from the Air Force to design and manufacture a custom challenge coin which would be presented by their Chief Master Sergeant. They want something simple and classy, but still distinctive and represent the Air Force mission, which is to fly, fight and win – airpower anytime, anywhere.

While we tend to keep everything basic and classic, we also tried to find a way to make the challenge coin to feel and look ‘Light as Air’. So we just start with three basic elements: A circle, the U.S Air Force logo, and the Rank Insignia. We put them together on the sides of the coin, and the we hollow out the unnecessary parts. We put as minimum details and attributes to the coin to keep it simple and light. Simple but bold letterings are just perfect, and then we make sure that the embossed details on the logo and insignia are perfectly executed.

What we get is a very simple, light yet very representative coin, with only two colors applied, white and blue, which are the trademark colors of the USAF, perfectly matched with the matte silver, the original color of the coin. It’s just screams ‘Air Force’ just by looking at it in a glance.

Afghanistan NATO Army Challenge Coin

Resolute Support Mission (RSM) or Operation Resolute Support was a NATO-led multinational mission in Afghanistan. It began on 1 January 2015 as the successor to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF. Pursuant to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2189 of 2014, RSM was a noncombat mission aimed at advising and training Afghan security forces to provide long-term security to the country, under the aegis of the Security and Defence Cooperation Agreement BSA between the United States and Afghanistan,

This custom challenge coin ordered by RSM is truly one of a kind. While it’s still shaped like a normal round coin, some of middle part is hollowed out so the overall layout brings out more of the details such as the logo, the flags and the texts on both sides. The design layout must be precise to maintain the structure of the coin, and the small texts on the front of the coin should be clear and readable. The color scheme that we choose must also goes well with the base material of the coin.

As you can see in the pictures, the result is a very luxurious and beautiful custom challenge coin. The embossed pattern and painted lettering on the edge of the coin really give it a strong circle form, and the nicely detailed center part of the coin is nicely cut with the right proportion.

Police Challenge Coin

On September 30, 2011 Law Enforcement Officers from the Metro Area of Richmond, VA met. The meeting was an organizational meeting for a Metro Emerald Society. Out of that meeting came the Metro Richmond Police Emerald Society. Their purpose is uniting law enforcement officers from the Greater Richmond Area that identify themselves with being from the Emerald Isle.

They have a very strong Irish root and would like to show it on the custom challenge coin that they ordered us. Also, they want it to be unique, and not just graphically distinctive. So, we used the shape of the police badge as the basic shape of the coin, and put the shamrock on the front side of the coin, and their logo on the back. For the front side we applied the letterings with firm shape as they usually use in the police force logos and graphics. As for the back side, we use an Irish-styled letterings to match the texts on their original logo.

The result is incredible, as you can see the basic coin shape is perfectly cut, the details of the shamrock shape and color fit each other, and the letterings are just well engraved that everything is balanced out. We think this custom challenge coin specially designed for them couldn’t look better!
