USS Abraham Lincoln Coin

Homeported in NAS North Island, San Diego, California, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) is America’s fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. She is the second Navy ship to have been named after former President Abraham Lincoln. She is also a member of the United States Pacific Fleet. She is administratively responsible to Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific, and operationally serves as the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 3 and host to Carrier Air Wing Nine.

The largest warships in the world, Nimitz-class aircraft carriers support and operate aircraft that engage in attacks on airborne, afloat and ashore targets that threaten free use of the sea and engage in sustained power projection operations in support of U.S. and coalition forces.

They asked us to produce a custom challenge coin for one of their supply officers. Instead of being shaped like a normal coin, they requested that this one is shaped like a golden oak leaf. The oak leaf has been a chief symbol of the Navy Supply Corps. And gold and silver oak leaves are used today to denote the rank of Navy lieutenant commanders and commanders, respectively. In 1826, the oak leaf insignia first appeared on the collars of Navy surgeons.

U.S. Marshal Challenge Coin

U.S. Marshal Challenge Coin

U.S. Marshal Challenge Coin

The U.S. Marshals Service was the first federal law enforcement agency in the United States. Federal marshals have served the country since 1789, often in unseen but critical ways. The Marshals Service occupies a uniquely central position in the federal justice system. It is the enforcement arm of the federal courts, involved in virtually every federal law enforcement initiative.

The Marshals Service is primarily responsible for the protection of judges and other judicial personnel, the administration of fugitive operations, the management of criminal assets, the operation of the United States Federal Witness Protection Program and the Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System, the execution of federal arrest warrants, and the protection of senior government officials through the Office of Protective Operations.

We were given the opportunity by the US Marshals to create a custom challenge coin. It’s quite an experience for us to finally build the Marshals’ Star just like we used to see in the movies and other media. They requested something distinct: a coin with the US Marshal Star on it.

You can see in the photos that the quality of this coin is just superb. From the choice of the materials, the shape of the machined star, the sculpture of the small insignias, to the etched letterings, all of them are crafted perfectly.

The Poker Store Coin

The Poker Store Coin

The Poker Store Coin

The Poker Store is a poker supply business since 2008. They have been selling poker chips from their Dallas area retail store. After many requests, they finally put their selection of quality poker products online.

The Poker Store sells casino-quality poker chips & sets. They also sell Copag Plastic Playing Cards and other casino accessories, and offer Fast Order Processing and Free Shipping on all their products. They also ship internationally through eBay’s Global Ship Program. One of their new product is the Classic 100% Plastic Playing Cards. These cards are 100% Plastic and compare to the thickness of Modiano/Da Vinci Cards and the flexibility of Copag.

They ordered a custom challenge coin from us, and it was a Dealer’s challenge coin. They wanted a coin that look like a poker or casino coin, so it was actually a quite simple and evident design concept.

They asked us to put an Ace of Spade image with the text ‘Dealer’ over it on one side, and on the other side they requested some more texts to be printed there, and some aesthetic elements such as playing card suits images. It’s a nice, simple but fun challenge coin, we also had fun creating it for them.

Shubuta Fire & Rescue Coin

Shubuta Fire & Rescue Coin

Shubuta Fire & Rescue Coin

The town of Shubuta is located in Clarke County, Mississippi, on the eastern border of the state. Located along the Chickasawhay River, the small town of Shubuta was incorporated in 1865. It had started in the 1830s as a trading post community, located near the Choctaw village of Yowani.

Shubuta was established in 1853 when the Mobile & Ohio Railroad was built and became the lifeblood of the community, as trade and opportunity thrived from farming and timber. Until the late 1800s, Shubuta was commonly known as the largest town between Meridian and Mobile.

The town has a Volunteer Fire Department, and they asked us to build a custom challenge coin for them. They wanted to have their Fire & Rescue insignia on the front side. On the other side, they wanted to have The Red Water Artesian Well of Shubuta to be engraved there.

The well is famous for providing red water, rich in sodium bicarbonate. With its medicinal taste and deep tea color, the Indians refused to drink it and gave it an Indian name meaning poison. Later, young town blades would bottle this red water in whiskey bottles and sell it to unsuspecting passengers traveling through on local trains. We managed to capture the image of the well and sculpted it on this classy challenge coin.

Emergency Service Unit Coin

Emergency Service Unit Coin

Emergency Service Unit Coin

Emergency Service Unit or ESU, responds to a wide range of calls for assistance, including people threatening to jump off bridges or buildings, people stuck in elevators, barricaded perpetrators, and hostage situations. In American law enforcement (municipal, county, or state), the ESU is a multi-faceted element within a law enforcement agency’s Special Operations Command.

Law enforcement agency ESU members must maintain the highest level of physical agility and personal health at all times in order to meet the crisis challenges of tactical situations. There are minimum time-in-grade requirements before an NYPD officer can apply to transfer to ESU. Police Officers must have a minimum of 5 years in the department with a minimum annual rating of 3.5. Supervisors in the rank of sergeants and lieutenants must have 2 years in rank before being assigned to ESU.

We got the order to create this custom challenge coin from the ESU of Regional County of Maine. They requested a coin with a quite simple design, just their logo on the front side, and the inscription of their motto on the back side. They also only wanted two colors applied, which are gold and black.

They have a really nice logo which makes the challenge coin design to be bold and straightforward. Without any etched patterns or other elements, the combination of gold & black finish really works well for this design.
