Airman of the Quarter Coin

Airman of the Quarter Coin

Airman of the Quarter Coin

Airmen of the Quarter is a merit presented by the US Air Force, as one of the Air Force Quarterly Awards. These awards significantly intensify the overall visibility of Air Force personnel, including Air National Guard and Reserve, and their accomplishments. It also records the justification for quarterly and annual awards at all organizational levels, from Flight to the Headquarters Air Force.

To standardize the nomination process, the Air Force requires that all nomination packages for awards be submitted on AF Form 1206, Nomination for Award, IAW AFPD 36-28, Awards and Decorations Program. Merits and Awards are effective tools to recognize outstanding achievements by US Air Force personnel. They also boost morale and public support of the Air Force by communicating the accomplishments of its members.

We had the opportunity to design and manufacture a custom challenge coin for the Airman of the Quarter award. It was a simple and elegant design, with only a lettering of the name of the award on one side, and the embossed and painted insignia on the other.

While it’s a relatively straightforward design, we had to make sure everything was proportionally placed and machined. The result is one prestigious and clean-looking custom challenge coin.

Air Mobility Command Coin

Air Mobility Command Coin

Air Mobility Command Coin

Air Mobility Command or AMC is a major command (MAJCOM) of the U.S. Air Force. Air Mobility Command’s mission is to provide global air mobility. Established on 1 June 1992, and was formed from elements of the inactivated Military Airlift Command (MAC) and Strategic Air Command (SAC).

Air Mobility Command provides four core mission sets to the Joint Force worldwide, such as Airlift (Deploy U.S. armed forces anywhere in the world), Air Refueling, Aeromedical Evacuation, and The Global Air Mobility Support System, which is a logistics network to project, connect, maneuver, and sustain combat power anywhere on the globe, from the ground up.

The one-of-a-kind custom challenge coin that we crafted for them was ordered by the 1230 Mobile Aerial Port Flight. They wanted something unique and used a square-shaped coin, with a lot of graphics and text carved on both sides of the coin.

On one side they wanted an embossed graphic of a human hand print, and on the other side, you can see beautifully detailed engravings of their airplane and other military vehicles, along with their painted insignias. The level of machined details is superb considering how small the graphics are.

673rd Dental Company Area Support Coin

673rd Dental Company Area Support Coin

673rd Dental Company Area Support, also called 673rd DCAS, made history by being the first Army Medical Department Multicomponent unit to be activated and deployed in support of a major campaign. They are stationed at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Fort Lewis) in Tacoma, Washington.

The company’s campaign contribution credits include almost every major conflict since its initial activation in 1945. Among the credits are: World War II, the Korean War, the UN Summer-Fall Offensive, the Second Korean Winter, Korea Summer-Fall 1952, Third Korean Winter, and most recently Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 673rd continues to cooperate in various missions today providing dental support in every environment imaginable.

They ordered a custom challenge coin for their participation in the “America’s Premier DCAS” event, held by the Association of Army Dentistry. They wanted to have their mascot and insignias to be engraved and sculpted on both sides of the coin, along with some letterings of their name and motto encircling them.

We produced the coin from a grey-colored metal with a semi-matte finish. The paint used for the colors was only black, and some gold and cream for the sculpture. We can see the beautiful details were machined perfectly on the cougar’s sculpture.

312th Training Squadron Coin

312th Training Squadron Coin

312th Training Squadron Coin

The US Air Force’s 312th Training Squadron’s mission is to train, develop, and inspire warriors to deliver fire emergency services and nuclear treaty monitoring for the Department of Defense and our international partners, and its mission to directly supervise, mentor, and develop non-prior service students while they attend technical training.

The 312th Training Squadron provides training for Military Training Leaders (MTL), and the role of the MTL is to reinforce military training standards learned at BMT, assist Airmen with adaptation to the military way of life, and provide the U.S. Air Force with highly trained, motivated, self-disciplined and physically fit Airmen.

Being nicknamed the ‘Wolfpack’, the 312th Training Squadron wanted us to design a custom challenge coin with a wolf paw print graphic on one side, and their insignia on the other. They also requested that the coin be finished with only black, white, and red colors.

We designed the coin to be round and made from a brushed-look metal for a clean, contemporary look. The wolf paw print was embossed nicely with the text ‘Wolf[ack’ engraved over it. Their insignia, a Maltese cross with a crossed hatchet and wrench behind it, was perfectly carved and painted on the other side of the coin.

205th MI Battalion Coin

205th MI Battalion Coin

205th MI Battalion Coin

The United States Army’s 205th Military Intelligence Brigade, also called 205th MI BDE, was constituted on 12 July 1944 in the Army of the United States as the 205th Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment. The brigade and its three battalions have a history dating back to World War II and have been in continuous active service since 1944.

The 205th Military Intelligence Brigade was allotted to the Regular Army on 6 October 1950 and has been involved in many US military operations, such as the Tet Offensive in Vietnam in 1969, deployed with Task Force Eagle in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995, and Operation Iraqi Freedom in late 2003.

The custom challenge coin that we manufactured for them was somewhat fancy and elegant. They want it to be designed with a laurel wreath that surrounds round-shaped graphics that have their insignias and letterings inside them. They also want it have a glowing, polished look.

We managed to craft the coin with a precision that you can see the small sculpts, etched textures, and engraved letters even from a distance. The coin was perfectly coated in chrome coating on the wreath, and beautifully painted with bright glossy colors on the middle part.
