US Navy Mustang Custom Buckle

US Navy Mustang Custom Buckle

The term “Mustang” is a relatively modern term, originating either just prior to, or during World War II. A Mustang is an Officer who has been promoted up from the ranks of Enlisted personnel through an in-service procurement program, with no interruption of his or her active duty status.

The creed of the Mustang Officer, upon receiving their commission is: “I did it the hard way. I earned it!”. Their motto “sursum ab ordine” which means “up from the ranks” to underline a distinction between Navy Mustangs and those Naval and Marine Corps officers commissioned directly from collegiate and similar post-collegiate pre-commissioning officer candidate programs.

The motto was requested by the US Navy Mustang to be inscribed on custom belt buckles when they ordered them from us at Embleholics. Along with the motto inscription, they wanted a picture of a Mustang to be embossed as the main graphic element of the buckle.

The design concept of this personalized belt buckle is quite simple, with minimum details and ornaments. The shape of the buckle is an oval with the left and right parts cut. The finished belt buckle was layered in gold coating and navy blue for the background color. A simple but bold design like this fits well with the spirit of the Navy Mustang.

In the Navy, a Mustang can refer to any former enlisted personnel serving as commissioned, limited duty, and/or warrant officers. The Navy Mustang Association (NMA) is the only professional and social organization instituted for Naval officers who served proudly for three or more years in the enlisted ranks.

There are many different routes Sailors can take to become a Mustang, and all of the programs are geared toward different career paths. Unlike other nations, a US Mustang Officer is not a temporary or brevet promotion but rather an earned Commission from the President of the United States of America afforded all the same pay, with additional for the enlisted time, command responsibilities, and expectations as other commissioned officers in the United States.

The Navy Mustang reached us at Embleholics to produce their custom challenge coin. They wanted a coin with a modern vibe, with relatively simple graphics and inscriptions. They asked us to engrave small engravings of their insignias and emblems, and have their motto “sursum ab ordine” which means “up from the ranks”, to be inscribed on the front side of the coin.

There are many techniques to apply a graphic image or lettering onto a coin’s surface. They could be engraved or carved, and also could be printed with special material so they will have 3D effects. The numbers on the radar image on this coin is an example of that.

Custom Military Belt Buckles

Custom Military Belt Buckles

The big Western buckles such as the ones worn by cowboys, have their origins in the buckles worn by ancient Greeks and ancient Romans as well as by those in northern Europe, and they became the object of special care on the part of metalsmiths, who ornamented many buckles with rich and intricate designs.

These belt buckles were worn by the ancient military, who expected their soldiers to look sharp when they headed into battle. Each unit issued a different belt buckle to their men, making them easy to distinguish from one another. In the 1500s, decorative belts and custom-made belt buckles seem to have been worn for the first time as a symbol of status in Regional Spain.

Nowadays, a lot of organizations and institutions, including the military, have several kinds of accessories or regalia given to their members as a token of appreciation or to celebrate and commemorate an event. Usually, the common token made and awarded was a challenge coin, but now we have many options to turn everyday accessories such as belt buckles, bottle openers, or keychains into personalized mementos.

In the photos, you can see that we could build you detailed reliefs on a metal belt buckle, with options of colors, shapes, and finishings, at affordable prices.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is an engineer formation of the United States Army that has three primary mission areas: Engineer Regiment, military construction, and civil works. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approximately 37,000 dedicated Civilians and Soldiers delivering engineering services to customers in more than 130 countries worldwide.

As an Engineer Officer, you’ll manage a wide range of crucial engineering projects, including constructing roads, bases, bridges, and airfields, supporting disaster relief and civilian rescue efforts, and researching alternative engineering technology. You’ll also provide support to troops in the field. They are also researching and developing technology for the army’s war fighters while protecting America’s interests abroad by using their engineering expertise to promote stability and improve quality of life.

We were given the order to build a unique custom challenge coin for them. They wanted the coin to be shaped like a crest, with a shield and ribbons. They want to have their insignia engraved on one side and some inscriptions on the other side. They also wanted the coin to have only one color, which is red, the color taken from their official insignia.

You can see in the photos that all of the carvings and etching needed to be done to the coin to achieve the wanted design could be well-executed with our state-of-the-art machinery.

United States Army Airborne Coin

United States Army Airborne Coin

The 82nd Airborne Division is an active airborne infantry division of the United States Army specializing in joint forcible entry operations. Parachute-qualified infantry and support personnel serving in airborne units are also known as paratroopers. The main advantage of airborne forces is their ability to be deployed into combat zones without land passage, as long as the airspace is accessible.

Based at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, the 82nd Airborne Division is the primary fighting arm of the XVIII Airborne Corps. Nine of the Army’s 13 four-star generals have led or served in the 82nd or XVIII Airborne Corps. Airborne also offers training, morale, retention, and recruitment perks, according to leaders.

Many airborne soldiers absolutely love what they do, despite or sometimes because of, its inherent risks. That is why when one of their command sergeant majors resigned, they made him a special custom challenge coin. They wanted the coin to be elegant and luxurious, and the design concept was nothing unordinary.

The coin was machined to have a smooth edge and thin rims. The base metal material for the coin was etched and engraved with some graphics elements such as the US Army’s and the Airborne’s emblems and insignias. The overall finishing coat for the coin was gold-color plating and the other elements were painted according to their original colors.
