Veterans Taps Challenge Coin
Taps have been used by the U.S. armed forces ever since — at the end of the day, during flag ceremonies, and at military funerals. Whenever a service member is buried with military honors anywhere in the United States, the ceremony concludes with the three-rifle volley and the sounding of Taps on trumpet or bugle.
The impassive sound of a bugle call is a fixture at military funerals. The bugle call played at military funerals is ingrained in American culture like the music of mourning, but it wasn’t always that way. “Taps” started out as a military signal for soldiers to turn out the lights and go to bed. When at a military funeral in uniform, a salute should be rendered during the playing of taps. Civilians should remove their headgear and place their hand over their heart.
This custom challenge coin was designed and built to remember and honor the Veterans Taps. The design idea was to show the silhouette of a military trumpet playing the Taps and an officer saluting in front of him. And also to have the coin showing the Psalm 23:4 verse from the bible.
The US Flag was the only element painted on this coin and it became a really nice accent amidst the monochromatic design.
