USS Nimitz Challenge Coin
USS Nimitz (CVN 68) is the lead ship of the U.S. Navy’s Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and is named in honor of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. With the inactivation of the USS Enterprise in 2012 and decommissioning in 2017, Nimitz is now the oldest U.S. aircraft carrier in service, the oldest serving aircraft carrier, and the mothership of the Navy fleet in the world. The Nimitz-class carriers have a lifespan of approximately 50 years.
Estimates on decommissioning for Nimitz herself were updated in April 2022, with the Navy Press Corps indicating that USS Nimitz is planned to be removed from the battle force in the fiscal year 2025, when the ship’s Terminal Off-load Program begins, with inactivation scheduled to begin in 2027. Every job in the civilian world likely exists on the Nimitz. Doctors, mechanics, and ministers are a few occupations seen aboard.
This beautiful and shiny custom challenge coin was produced for the Mustang Association mess deck take-over in the galley of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. It was also designed to be a unique challenge coin, with the ship’s wheel a the base shape, combined with the shape of a mustang.
The whole coin was colored in shiny gold, and a part of the mustang was painted in the US Flag colors, while the insignias on the back were colored in silver.
