US Coast Guard Challenge Coin
The Revenue Marine and the Revenue Cutter Service, as it was known variously throughout the late 18th and the 19th centuries, referred to its ships as cutters. The term is English in origin and refers to a specific type of vessel, namely, “a small, decked ship with one mast and bowsprit, with a gaff mainsail on a boom, a square yard and topsail, and two jibs or a jib and a staysail.”
This colorful and cool-looking custom challenge coin was commissioned to us by the USCGC Tiger Shark. They wanted a regular challenge coin with sporty graphic designs on one side and something classic on the other. For the front side, we put their cartoon mascot of a Tiger Shark, with the map of Texas between its teeth. And on the back side, we put the United States Coast Guard emblem.
With a golden rope pattern for the edge of the coin, the colorful paints on the side with the shark, and the simple USCG emblem with the embossed anchors on the other side, this is truly a challenge coin that anyone would love to have.
