US Coast Guard Auxiliary Coin
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary (USGC Aux) is the uniformed auxiliary service (volunteer component) of the United States Coast Guard. The Auxiliary exists to support all USCG missions on the water or in the air, except for roles that require “direct” law enforcement or military engagement.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary has units in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam, and participates in many missions. It is comprised of 26,000 members who volunteer their time to support the operation of the Coast Guard, promote and improve recreational boating safety, and provide trained crews and facilities to enhance the safety and security of US ports, waterways, and coastal regions. In total, the Coast Guard Auxiliary saves taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
One of their unit, the Division 1, wanted to have a custom challenge coin, and ask us to design and create something simple and unsophisticated. We put their emblem on the front, and on the back, we placed the USGC Aux insignia. Encircling them are blue circles for a nice accent, with some white letterings inside them. And on the edge of the coin, we etched a rope pattern as the margin for the design. The result is a straightforward yet attractive coin.
