NAVSUP and the Navy Supply Corps share one mission: to conduct and enable supply chain, acquisition, operational logistics and Sailor & family care with our mission partners to generate readiness and sustain naval forces worldwide to prevent and decisively win wars. We did our best to design and to craft the custom challenge coin commissioned by them, so it could represent the mission & vision of NAVSUP. This challenge coin was presented by the Commanding Officer, and we made sure that everything is executed flawlessly.

From the brass-colored base material with brushed finish, the background on both sides of the coin with graphical details and colors, to the small sized insignias and letterings which needed to be engraved without error so they can still be read, all of them are manufactured precisely.

Navy Chief Challenge Coin

The logistics specialist (LS) is a US Navy enlisted rating that was created on 1 October, 2009 by the merger of the storekeeper (SK) and postal clerk (PC) ratings. Logistics specialists are primarily tasked with maintaining military supply stores. Their responsibilities generally include open purchasing and procurement, shipping and receiving, inventory management, and issue of equipment, repair parts, tools, consumable items, hazardous materials or anything else obtained through the naval supply system.

We were requested to design and produce a custom challenge coin for their LSCS (SW/AW) Dante M. Castillo. The design concept itself is not an extravagant one, just a usual challenge coin, but they wanted to have an elegant and distinguished looking coin that he could be proud of. So we needed to make sure that we put everything in the right place, using the matching letterings, and picking the best looking material for the coin and choosing what colors to be used on it.

We decided that we only use minimum colors and paint on this coin, so the depth of the design would shaped by the different tone of the brushed material’s surface. Also we applied strong patterns such as diamond plate and checkered squares which gives the coin a compelling accent.

Air National Guard Challenge Coin

The 161st Air Refueling Wing (161 ARW) is a unit of the Arizona Air National Guard, stationed at Goldwater Air National Guard Base, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Arizona. If activated to federal service, the Wing is gained by the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command. Its principal mission is air refueling.

The wing enhances the Air Force’s capability to accomplish its primary missions of Global Reach and Global Power. It also provides aerial refueling support to Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps aircraft as well as aircraft of allied nations. The wing is also capable of transporting litter and ambulatory patients using patient support pallets during aeromedical evacuations.

We were given the opportunity to produce the ‘Airman of the Quarter’ award custom challenge coin. It’s a very simple design with minimum accents or patterns. They only wanted their insignia on one side and the lettering of the award on the other. The edge of the coin doesn’t have unnecessary ornament or motif , just one solid bold line. Simple stars and leaves decoration on one side with the letterings, embossed without any colors. And the insignia of the 161 ARW is wonderfully painted with their original colors. The result is a classy, simple & spartan coin.

Vets Rock Challenge Coin

Vets Rock is a celebration of active duty military, veterans and reserves for a day of valuable programs and resources. It is focused on enhancing the lives of our service members by providing information on job fair opportunities, veteran service organizations and other resources.

The Mohegan Sun welcomed veterans and active military members to its fourth annual ‘Vets Rock’ event in 2017. That year’s event is in partnership and benefits the USO Connecticut (USO), the nation’s leading organization dedicated to serving our Armed Forces. The event showcased a full days worth of valuable vet services including career fair, suit fitting and a mobile vet center. And we were excited that they commissioned the fabrication of their custom challenge coin to us.

Surely they didn’t want a common military challenge coin for this event. They wanted something that screams ‘amusement’, ‘festivity” and ‘refreshment’. We applied the graphics that they use for the event, and added necessary embellishments, but not too much that it will be a design overkill. The brushed copper color of the base material are shown on the surface with minimum paint applied, it gives the overall look of the coin a vintage vibe. The colorful elements on the graphics and the letters goes well with each other.

Sheppard’s host unit is the 82nd Training Wing. Because of the wing’s mission, Sheppard is the most diversified base in AETC. The 82nd provides specialized technical training, medical, and field training for officers, airmen, and civilians of all branches of the military including the AFRES/ANG, other DoD agencies and foreign nationals.

The 82d Training Wing, sometimes written as 82nd Training Wing, (82 TRW) is a United States Air Force unit assigned to the Air Education and Training Command, Second Air Force. Stationed in Texas, it produces more than 62,000 graduates annually in more than 1,000 technical training courses.

They wanted a prestigious and glamorous custom challenge coin to be presented by the Commander, and to have their spirit & pride to be symbolized nicely on it. It’s a challenging yet fun task for us to design this coin. Using simple and common concept of challenge coin layout so it will remain classic & timeless, but we also put a heavy number of elements as accents on both sides of the coin. Finished with shiny metal plating of silver and gold, the coin radiates luxurious vibe, and the very detailed engraved and embossed small elements such as the lines, stars, and the letterings, really make this beautiful coin a masterpiece.
