Army USASA Challenge Coin

USASA-K or The U.S. Army Signal Activity Kaiserslautern, is the US Army’s 102nd Strategic Signal Battalion. Its mission is to build, operate, and defend communications infrastructure and information systems and services that extend the GIG to enable mission command in support of unified land operations. And their vision is to be the ready and resilient team of technical experts that delivers an “always on” network to the U.S. Army in Europe and its mission partners.

They requested a classic looking custom challenge coin, without any color or paint on it. On one side they want to have a sculpted image of the hounds, the mascot of the Gatekeeper Team, with its logotype in the middle. And on the other side, they wanted an etched image of the Germany Map, with a rank symbols on top of it. Other than that, just some inscriptions encircling the images.

As you can see in the pictures, it’s a handsome and vintage-looking challenge coin. The brushed brass finish of the coin really brings out the antique feeling of the whole design. The hound heads and the Gatekeeper logotype are laid out nicely in the middle and the are engraved flawlessly that it looks like they pop out of the coin. On the back, the map or Germany is etched perfectly, just like the letterings on both sides of the coin.

Training Academy Challenge Coin

SCFTA or The Snohomish County Fire Training Academy is a training program and facility provided by several cities in the Washington state, including: Arlington, Everett, Mukilteo, Lake Stevens, Marysville, etc. South County Fire is the largest provider of fire and emergency medical services in Snohomish County, serving more than 250,000 residents in unincorporated communities and the cities of Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace.

This custom challenge coin ordered to us was to honor the graduated Recruit Class 20-1. They wanted something delicate but unsophisticated and simple. With the use of minimum ornaments, colors and pain. With just a symbol of biohazard etched on one side, and the emblem of the fire department on the other.

We chose shiny pale golden color as the base material of this coin. In the middle of both sides, we applied light gray as the color of the surface, which will be the background of the emblems. We had the biohazard logo to be engraved and painted with a gray darker than the background, and the Fire Department emblem to be painted with the pattern of the US flag. The result is a beautiful, shiny monochromatic coin.

POW/MIA Challenge Coin

This coin is requested by Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Oregon Crater Lake Chapter 29-6, a part of vets Helping Vets movement. They commissioned the creation of this custom challenge coin to us, to honor and remember the United States POW/MIA.

You Are Not Forgotten – that’s the central phrase behind the POW (Prisoner of War) and MIA (Missing in Action) remembrance movement which honors America’s prisoners of war, those who are still missing in action and their families. Many of the service members suffered as prisoners of war during several decades of varying conflicts. While some of them made it home, tens of thousands more never did.

They wanted a challenge coin that has shape of an Arrowhead, which represent strength, bravery, and protection from evil forces. Arrowheads represent one’s ability to survive the dangers of the world. An arrowhead symbolizes a strong and adventurous spirit. Native Americans used arrowheads not only as weapons but as magical charms.

We used chromed metal as the base material for the coin. On one side we put the logo of the Combat Veterans and a ribbon with their chapter above it. On the other side, we applied The US flag and the POW/MIA flag below it on a white background, and a ribbon with Vets Helping Vets inscription above them. It is truly a unique custom made challenge coin.

Honor Guard Challenge Coin

The honor guard is a ceremonial unit comprised of sworn members of the police department who are highly motivated and maintain exceptionally high standards of appearance, conduct and who show aptitude for ceremonial duty. Guards of Honor also serve in the civilian world for fallen police officers and other civil servants.

Certain religious bodies, especially Churches of the Anglican Communion and the Methodist movement, have the tradition of an Honor Guard at the funeral of an ordained elder, in which all other ordained elders present “guard the line” between the door of the church and the grave, or hearse if the deceased is to be buried elsewhere or cremated.

This honor guard custom challenge coin was commissioned by The City of Bellingham Police Department. They wanted a nice and unique coin with a blue color theme, with some contemporary graphics on the surfaces of the coin. One image would represent the beautiful natural scenic of the City of Bellingham, and another image on the other side would be a symbolic graphic of how they honor their fallen comrades.

For the scenic image of the nature, it’s done in a stylized painting style with solid colors. The lines are embossed and they are not painted and showing the coin’s real material color. And for the other image, it’s a silhouette of a Police officer holding a folded flag.

Pandemic is defined as “an epidemic occurring worldwide, or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries and usually affecting a large number of people.” This effect was quite evident as the coronavirus disease, coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), swept through Europe and the USA, placing an incredible strain on the healthcare system as it responded to this novel infectious disease.

In Europe, the Pandemic Response was executed by the joined forces of USA’s LRMC, Germany’s MEDDAC-Bavaria, Italy’s USAHC Vicenza, and Belgium’s SHAPE. With their help, the Covid-19 spread throughout Europe could be slowed down significantly, and also the people infected could receive proper intensive care.

They requested an custom challenge coin to honor everyone that has involved in the process, and have put their time, energy, and their own health at stake to make sure that this Pandemic Response could be performed well. We are very honored to accept this task and we did our best to deliver a splendidly designed and flawlessly executed challenge coin for them.

As you can see in the pictures, the coin turned out to be a very classy yet contemporary looking one. The brushed brass color of the coin material gives it a vintage feel, while the large contemporary graphic of the Covid-19 virus shape and the montage of flags, contribute in giving the modern look of this handsome challenge coin.
