The Consumer Veteran Business Leader Program (VBLP) is one of the military programs at Amazon. Their roles are full-time; transitioning veteran candidates will be considered along with industry candidates. There are no step promotions built-in and veterans start out with a full-time salary (no internships).

The program is open to veterans and military spouses. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. The Consumer organization values the skills and attributes veterans bring to them every day. That means that if veterans have a defined set of skills and experience, it doesn’t truly matter if their resume fits one-for-one. What matters is that veterans have already proven most of their skills while serving and they have set themselves apart.

The custom challenge coin ordered to us for this program is something that we usually call minimalistic or stripped down. Only their logos are engraved on both sides of the coin, and some inscriptions are embossed to complete the whole design. Since it has minimum ornaments and elements, we need to make sure everything is laid out in the right spot and in the right sizes. Lastly, the colors used need to be painted flawlessly so they could be nice accents on the brushed brass-colored material.

Chicago Fire Dept. Challenge Coin

Chicago Fire Dept. Challenge Coin

Chicago Fire Dept. Challenge Coin

The Chicago Fire Department (CFD) is the largest fire department in the midwest, and one of the nation’s largest departments throughout the United States. It’s also one of the oldest major organized fire departments, established before 1833. They promotes fire safety, provides emergency care, and extinguishes fires.

The Chicago Fire Department’s Training Division is under The Bureau of Operations, which is the largest Bureau within the CFD. The Bureau of Operations commands the following Divisions: Fire Suppression & Rescue, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Special Operations Command, and the Office of Fire Investigation (OFI).

They commissioned this custom challenge coin to us and they asked us to make them something timeless and luxurious. A shiny golden colored metal with usual round shape was chosen as the base material. We put the logo of the CFD is on the back side, and the engraving of a bald eagle flying while carrying the star spangled banner with fiery background on the front side. Used glossy bright red as the main color, and the other elements are either also colored with glossy paint, or baring the golden colored material.

It’s red, it’s shiny, and it’s fiery. They are happy with this ‘hot’ challenge coin, as we are.

OIF Challenge Coin

OIF Challenge Coin

OIF Challenge Coin

OEF/OIF is an acronym that refers to the U.S.-led conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Specifically, OEF means “Operation Enduring Freedom” (the war in Afghanistan), while OIF stands for “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” or the Iraq War. 20 March 2003 marked the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom with preemptive airstrikes on Saddam Hussein’s Presidential Palace and military targets followed by approximately 67,700 “boots on the ground” with 15,000 Navy personnel on ships in the region (Belasco).

One of the armed forces that participated in the OIF is The 89th Cavalry Regiment. It is a Regiment of the United States Army, first established in 1940. The 1st Squadron of the 89th Cavalry Regiment deployed to Germany in 1944 (then known as 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion).

This custom challenge coin is commissioned to us and we had fun designing and producing it. The basic concept of the design is pretty simple, but we had to make sure that the sculpted cavalry unit on the front side of the coin machined pristinely. The names of the soldiers had to fit on the back side, and also the small sized emblems and ornaments had to be engraved with precision. The result is a really delicate and stunning challenge coin.

Cavalry Brigade Challenge Coin

Cavalry Brigade Challenge Coin

Cavalry Brigade Challenge Coin

The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team is the state’s largest unit. The brigade is located in more than 20 Idaho communities and across four states: Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Oregon. The unit is one of five armored brigade combat teams in the National Guard and one of 16 in the United States Army. The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team has units located throughout Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Nevada.

Often referred to as the Snake River Brigade and formerly known as the 116th Armored Cavalry Regiment, the unit includes about 3,000 citizen-soldiers from Idaho. Since 2001, the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team has deployed twice to Iraq, completed National Training Center rotations and trained around the country and world.

The wanted something classic and has an aristocratic feel to it. We applied a shiny golden colored metal as the base coin material, and crafted a rope pattern to the coin’s edge, encircling the graphics and ornaments on the surface of the coin. It has the crests of the units on one side, and the picture of a German castle on the other. The finishing on the detailed embossed insignia & crests is executed perfectly, even if they are relatively small in size. The paints and colors are on spot, and the unpainted surfaces are polished and shines.

Army Artillery Challenge Coin

Army Artillery Challenge Coin

Army Artillery Challenge Coin

The 56th Field Artillery Command was a brigade size element of the United States Army, that serves as the Force Field Artillery Headquarters for U.S. Army Europe and Africa, with a mission to synchronize, integrate, and control fires and effects in support of the theater land component. U.S. Army Europe and Africa conducted the reactivation ceremony for the 56th Artillery Command on November 8, 2021.

The 56th Artillery Command will plan and coordinate the employment of multi-domain fires and effects in support of U.S. Army Europe and Africa and/or a Combined Joint Force Land Component Command. The Theater Fires Command improves readiness and multinational interoperability by the integration of joint and multi-national fires in theater operations and exercises.

The custom challenge coin that we designed and manufactured for them is one of those simple, plain designs which has no gimmicks or decorations. Just their insignias on both sides and a bit of inscription around them. Using unpainted brass colored base material, and only the colors taken from their insignias to give the coin design depth and accents. The letterings are applied with a bold sans-serif styled font which are easy to read. This is one straightforward yet elegant challenge coin.
