Along with the Green Berets and Delta Force, the Ranger Regiment is part of the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Forces. Its history dates back to the 17th century. However, this elite infantry fighting wasn’t a permanent presence in the military until the 20th century. It consists of three battalions that are characterized by mental and physical toughness, excellent combat skills, and the ability to conduct complex operations in extreme conditions.

The 3rd Ranger Battalion, currently based at Fort Benning, Georgia, is the third of three Ranger Battalions belonging to the United States Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment. With specialized skills that enable them to perform a variety of operations, the 75th Ranger Regiment’s primary operations are to execute direct action raids in hostile or sensitive environments worldwide, often killing or capturing high-value targets.

We had the opportunity to manufacture a custom challenge coin for them. It’s a really unique challenge coin, with the inside of it hollowed to form a shape of a football-like figure. The graphic designs applied to both sides are quite simple, just some colored backgrounds and the insignias and some letterings, but they go along well together so it creates a colorful scheme from a distance.

Army CID Challenge Coin

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, commonly known as CID, was organized as a major command of the U.S. Army to provide investigative services to all levels of the Army. Its primary function is to investigate felony crimes and serious violations of military law & the United States Code within the US Army.

The division is a separate military investigative force with investigative autonomy; CID special agents, both military and civilian, report through the CID chain of command to the USACID Director, who reports directly to the Under Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of the Army. The CID Command was vested with command and control of all Army criminal investigation activities and resources worldwide. Today, the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command headquarters is located at Quantico, Virginia, and serves as the primary investigative unit for felony-level investigations.

They commissioned their unorthodox idea of a custom challenge coin to us. They wanted it to be square like a business card, as opposed to having a round shape like a normal coin. And on one side, they wanted only the letters CID etched and painted in black. The back side was not an easy task for us, as it has small logos, flags, and letterings to be engraved in detail. The result is one cool-looking metal ‘card’, as you can see on the pictures.

The Washington Air National Guard (WA ANG) is the aerial militia of the State of Washington, United States of America. It is, along with the Washington Army National Guard, an element of the Washington National Guard. Under the “Total Force” concept, Washington Air National Guard units are considered to be Air Reserve Components (ARC) of the United States Air Force (USAF).

Since the early 1900s, the men and women of the Washington Air National Guard have served our state and nation nobly. Today, more than 2,000 citizen airmen across the state support the Washington Air National Guard and lead a variety of missions – from refueling military jets to enhancing cyber security, to providing much-needed assistance during state emergencies.

The custom challenge coin ordered to us by them is something simple with some details applied so it would look different from the other coins. While the shape is just like a common challenge coin, some of the middle parts of it are hollowed so the shield form on the center of both surfaces looks bolder. The engraved and painted details on the graphics, such as the eagle mascot and the insignias, were executed perfectly and made this challenge coin looks eye-catching.

From pioneering mobile communications in the 1930s and making equipment that carried the first words from the moon in 1969, to supporting modern-day emergency response equipment for disaster relief efforts around the world, Motorola Solutions has a global footprint with products that demonstrate its thought leadership.

In 2011 the state of Mississippi awarded a $56 million contract to Motorola Solutions to create the United States’ first statewide broadband LTE public safety network. They manufacture two-way radios and public safety radio systems for first-responders and law enforcement.[20] It also provides software packages for command centers, mapping, and drone surveillance.[21] Apart from radios, it manufactures body cameras, the Watchguard Video brand for law enforcement, while others geared more towards private business and security surveillance under the Avigilon brand.

They wanted us to produce a special challenge coin, something elegant and memorable. The coin used the state of Mississippi’s map as the basic shape. On one side they wanted to have the Flag of Mississippi imprinted. And on the other, we put the logo of Motorola Solutions, and underneath it, we etched the inscription of their motto. The final result is a distinguishing and stylish challenge coin.

Established and operating in Genesee County since 1985, Flint Area Narcotics Group or F.A.N.G. detects and investigates drug-related crimes, and provides specialized services from membership agencies. The group provides resources and equipment to assist with investigating all high-profile criminal activity.

Since its inception as a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement unit over 20 years ago, the primary, original focus of FANG lies in its name, narcotics. In the criminal world, times are changing, and so is FANG’s mission. A FANG undercover officer spells it out. “We’re not just a drug team anymore. There are so many other things that are going on that need to be addressed. The drug is a large part of it, but it’s not the only part of the picture anymore.”

They commissioned us to design and manufacture their custom challenge coin, and they asked for something cool that represents their mission & vision. We put the image of their mascot, a Cobra, on one side of the coin, and a grim reaper on the other, both are nicely embossed and sculptured on the chrome-colored metal that we used for the base of the challenge coin. The side with the cobra glows naturally without any colors, while the side with the grim reaper is nicely painted and gives the coin a modern vibe.
