United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the supreme federal law enforcement agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security and is the nation’s principal border control organization. Its mission is to protect the American people, safeguard our borders, and enhance the nation’s economic prosperity.

With more than 60,000 employees, including officers and agents, agriculture specialists, aircraft pilots, trade specialists, mission support staff, and canine enforcement officers and agents. U.S. CBP is one of the world’s largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. while facilitating lawful international travel and trade.

This custom challenge coin that the US CBP commissioned for them was requested as something that should be classic, honorable, and artistic. On the front side, they wanted to have the US CBP Eagle placed to honor the fallen guards. And on the back, they asked us to put the engraved US Homeland Security emblem.

Matte silver-colored metal was chosen as the shade for the base coin, and the engravings and letterings were finished in brushed & toned brass color. The only paint used for coloring was the blue paint for the ribbon and a tint of turquoise for the background. The result is a handsome and respectable challenge coin.

Suncor’s operations include oil sands development and upgrading, conventional and offshore oil and gas production, petroleum refining, and product marketing under the Petro-Canada brand. Their renewable energy portfolio includes investments in four operating wind farms and the operation of an ethanol plant.

In 1967, they pioneered the commercial development of Canada’s oil sands – one of the largest petroleum resource basins in the world. Since then, Suncor has grown to become a globally competitive integrated energy company with a balanced portfolio of high-quality assets, a strong balance sheet, and significant growth prospects. In North America, Suncor develops and produces oil and natural gas in Western Canada, Colorado, and offshore drilling in eastern Canada.

Suncor Energy’s Emergency Services commissioned their firefighters’ custom challenge coin to us. They wanted something classic and elegant and look like a ‘real’ coin. They wanted to put their insignia on the back side, and the image of Saint Florian, the patron Saint of Firefighters, to be engraved on the front.

With only colors applied on the insignia and left the other areas in shiny metal color, it does look like a true, beautiful and precious coin.

South Kitsap Firefighters Coin

Kitsap County is located in the U.S. state of Washington. The South Kitsap Community has its center in the City of Port Orchard, WA. These communities include the City of Port Orchard, Orchard Heights, Retsil, Manchester, Olalla, Burley, Glenwood, Sunnyslope, Navy Yard City, and Gorst. Altogether, these small communities and neighborhoods encompass 117 square miles and set the boundaries for our district.

Surrounding the county seat lies the 12 stations of South Kitsap Fire and Rescue (SKFR). The settings for these stations include waterfront, urban, suburban, and rural communities. South Kitsap Fire and Rescue maintains a career staff of 106 and also utilizes over 30 volunteer firefighters and support staff. These personnels are stationed throughout the district at one of the seven 24-hour staffed stations or five volunteer stations.

The SKFR asked us to design and produce a well-built and classic custom challenge coin. They want something with a vintage look and also elegant, to honor their history and achievements. They wanted their emblem on one side and a sculpted image of the firefighters on the other, with some inscriptions of their motto encircling the image.

The coin was finished with brass colored metal base, black paint as the background for the embossed letterings, and red & white color applied to their emblem. Everything was executed properly and the end result was a very handsome challenge coin.

Alpha Company Challenge Coin

Opened on March 9, 1953, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC), formerly known as the 2d General Hospital, and the Landstuhl Army Medical Center (LAMC). In 1980, soldiers who were injured in Operation Eagle Claw were brought to LAMC. During the 1990s, U.S. Army Europe underwent a reorganization, and hospitals in Frankfurt, Berlin, Nuremberg, and other bases were gradually closed down or were downsized to clinics. In 1993, a group of 288 U.S. Air Force personnel augmented the hospital. By 1997, it was the only American military hospital in Europe.

LRMC’s Alpha Company which is the Troop Command’s “A” Company, aka the Gators, commissioned their custom challenge coin to us. They wanted to have fun with it, so instead of just having a regular challenge coin, they wanted something extraordinary and to represent themselves, by having an alligator cartoon mascot to be designed and sculpted around the coin.

The grinning alligator was painted bright green, and on the front side of the coin, we put the LRMC logo with the Alpha Company logotype, and also the US & Germany Flags graphic design. And on the back side, a view of the LRMC building was beautifully embossed, along with some design elements such as a rank insignia and some letterings around them.
