Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Fairmont Olympic Hotel, formerly known as The Olympic Hotel, is a historic hotel in downtown Seattle, Washington. Fairmont Olympic Hotel’s 450 lavishly appointed guestrooms and suites are perfect for the modern traveler. Featuring spacious, well-defined living and work areas and oversized bathrooms, the sophisticated accommodations.

In 2019 it celebrated its 95th Birthday, and in 2020 it started a renovation project handled by Abbott Construction. This recent renovation is the last stage of a series of projects to update the Fairmont Olympic. In 2016, the hotel spent $25 million to remodel guest rooms and corridors. Construction on the most recent phase, which cost an additional $25 million, began in January 2020. This is the first part of a “grand restoration;” the updated lobby, bar, and event spaces will be unveiled officially on April 30, 2021.

This Custom Challenge Coin is made to commemorate the start of the renovation in 2020. They wanted a commemorative coin that represent the history and the luxury of Fairmont Olympic Hotel, and also to honor their collaboration with Abbot Construction. So the concept is straightforward: The image of the hotel is etched on one side of the coin, and the Abbot Construction logo on the other. The result was an exquisite and flawlessly-crafted coin.

Navy 1st Class Petty Officer Coin

First Class Petty Officer or PO1 is the third of the Navy’s Petty Officer grades and serves as a non-commissioned officer. It is the sixth enlisted rate in the United States Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard, ranking just above petty officer second class and directly below chief petty officer.

A Petty Officer First Class serves both as a leader and as a technical expert, and all Petty Officers have a specified rating or job. They are often chosen to serve as the Leading Petty Officer (LPO) of a division, and the leadership experience demonstrated through this position is often used to choose sailors for promotion to Chief Petty Officer. Petty Officer First Class is the 6th rank in the United States Navy, ranking above Petty Officer Second Class and directly below Chief Petty Officer.

This custom challenge coin was ordered from us as a commemorative coin for the Leadership Symposium event held in Seattle for the First Class Petty Officers. They asked for something that resembles a compass, with a lot of small ornaments and details that are very Navy oriented.

As you can see in the photos, we use blue paint as the base color of the coin, with a white circle as an accent. And with the only US Flag painted in colors, everything else was left unpainted and finished with matte brass color.

Navy VP-47 Challenge Coin

Patrol Squadron (VP) 47, aka “The Golden Swordsmen”, is a maritime patrol squadron of the United States Navy based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA. It is a P-8A Poseidon multi-mission maritime aircraft squadron, labeled “The Best in the West”, VP-47 is the Navy’s Finest Maritime Patrol Squadron and continues the tradition of the best Sailors and Aircraft within the Pacific Fleet.

While deployed, VP-47 has supported several multinational exercises to help strengthen regional allied and partner relationships. The Golden Swordsmen worked with the “Tridents” of Patrol Squadron (VP) 26 to conduct operations in the waters of Central and South America, deployed early April in a partial capacity to the 4th Fleet AOR in support of Enhanced Counter Narcotics operations.

This custom challenge coin that they commissioned from us is hands-down one of the coolest challenge coins we have ever produced. They wanted to use their mascot, the Golden Swordsman, as the shape of the coin. They also want some Navy ornaments, such as the USN insignias to be applied to the design of the Swordsman’s armor. On the back side, we put a diamond plate pattern as the base, and some inscriptions and other graphics. The dark brass color finish for the armor and the golden color for the sword perfected this awesome challenge coin.

Surface Warrior is the term the Navy uses for the Commander of the Naval Surface Force. There are the Naval Surface Force Pacific (COMNAVSURFPAC), and the Naval Surface Force Atlantic (COMNAVSURFLANT). The commander is also designated as commander, Naval Surface Force (COMNAVSURFOR), a “dual hat”, who serves as the Navy’s Lead for the Surface Warfare Enterprise.

Their key missions are to deliver and sustain full-spectrum naval power that is balanced, affordable, and resilient; to lead Surface Warfare policy and standardization issues with a fleet-focused perspective; and to develop the professional expertise of our surface warriors. They man, train, and equip assigned surface forces and shore activities, ensuring a capable force for conducting prompt and sustained operations in support of United States national interests.

This custom challenge coin was commissioned to us to be given to one of them. They wanted something that was symbolic to the Navy and to honor the Surface Warrior respectably. They want the custom challenge coin to be designed and crafted flawlessly.

We put an engraved modern battle ship and the US Armed Force Eagle on the front side of the coin. And on the back, we put an old-time battle ship, also with an image of the American eagle, both of them nicely carved on the surface. With only black and blue paint used to color this coin,  the brushed brass material of the coin bring out an elegant & vintage feel.

Mott Volunteer Firefighter Coin

Mott is a city in Hettinger County, North Dakota, Mott is located on the scenic plains of rural southwestern, North Dakota in Hettinger County, with a current population is about 850, and it is the county seat of Hettinger County. They are a Centennial City and celebrated this milestone in 2003.

This custom challenge coin was ordered by the Mott Volunteer Fire Brigade. A volunteer fire department (VFD) is a fire department of volunteers who perform fire suppression and other related emergency services for a local jurisdiction. volunteer and retained (on-call) firefighters are expected to be on call to respond to emergency calls for long periods of time and are summoned to the fire station when their services are needed.

They wanted something honorable and respectable for their challenge coin, so they asked for something with classic with some inscription that people can read and understand their spirit. They wanted their insignia on one side, encircled with some embossed letterings. And on the other side, they wanted an American flag graphic as the background, with the engraved inscription taken from the Bible, Isiah 43:2.

As you can see in the pictures, the result was a very good-looking and respectable challenge coin. Everything was placed well and the elements were machined perfectly.
