Marine CI/HUMINT Challenge Coin

Marine CI/HUMINT Challenge Coin

US Marine’s CI/HUMINT (Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence) Specialists focus on developing strong personal relationships to gather timely information to reduce uncertainties of the operational environment for decision makers across the full operational spectrum. CI/HUMINT Specialists are amongst the most adept and resourceful professionals in the Marine Corps.

They are involved in all facets of planning and conducting CI and human intelligence operations and activities. CI activities are concerned with identifying and counteracting the threat of friendly forces posed by hostile intelligence organizations, or by persons engaged in espionage, sabotage, subversion, or terrorism. They build relationships based on rapport and trust using sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to assess character and motivation.

They requested us to build a unique custom challenge coin for them, inspired by the Jolly Roger image of Skull & Crossbones and the Grim Reaper. They wanted to have the coin shaped like the grim reaper’s cloak, painted in black, with the skull & crossbones design on one side, and a big anchor engraved on the other.

With some inscriptions of their motto, Jolly Roger, and CI/HUMINT to be etched on both sides of the coin, and finished with glossy black paint and golden-colored plating, the result is a very one-of-a-kind and exclusive challenge coin.

Marine Battalion Challenge Coin

Marine Battalion Challenge Coin

Marine Battalion Challenge Coin

Famously called the “Highlanders, the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion is a fast and mobilized armored terrestrial reconnaissance battalion of the United States Marine Corps. Their primary weapon system is the LAV-25 Light Armored Vehicle armed with the M242 25mm Bushmaster chain gun. They fall under the command of the 1st Marine Division and the I Marine Expeditionary Force.

First Light Armored Vehicle Battalion was activated in May 1985 and began receiving the first of its LAV-25 light armored vehicles in July 1985. On 9 October 1988, the battalion’s name was changed to First Light Armored Infantry Battalion. In 2014, Alpha Company boarded the USS America in support of SPMAGTF South-14 in SOUTHCOM. Delta Company officially de-activated in Oct 2017. Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie companies continue a cycle of CHOPing by company in support of the rotating west coast MEUs.

This custom challenge coin we created for them is a sample of a classic challenge coin done right. Nothing unordinary or overwhelming with the basic layout of the design, and no special finish or pattern is needed to finish this beautiful simple coin. We just needed to make sure that the manufacturing process was done flawlessly. As you can see in the photos, all the engravings and embossed graphics were machined with precision.

Louisville SWAT Challenge Coin

Louisville SWAT Challenge Coin

Louisville SWAT Challenge Coin

A SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team is a police tactical unit that uses specialized or military equipment and tactics. The SWAT Team members are recruited, trained, and equipped to resolve critical incidents involving a threat to public safety. They respond to situations involving hostage takers, barricaded suspects, or other incidents that may involve a threat to human life where specialized training or equipment could be utilized.

On January 6, 2003, the Jefferson County Police Department and the Louisville Division of Police merged to become the Louisville Metro Police Department. This began a long journey to combine the two departments into one. Along with the new department came a new look, the badge and car were redesigned. City and county police officers chose from several proposed designs for their cars and uniform patches.

They commissioned this bold and straightforward custom challenge coin from us, and they wanted something modern yet still honoring their history. The concept is quite simple: An insignia of the Louisville Metro PD SWAT on one side and the more contemporary graphic on the other side. To keep the classic feel of a challenge coin, we use a brushed brass-colored metal as the base material, and we only use 3 colors to paint both sides of the coin.

Supply Corps Challenge Coin

JTF-B or Joint Task Force-Bravo is one of three task forces under the United States Southern Command. Located at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, JTF-Bravo operates a forward, all-weather day/night C-5-capable air base, organizes multilateral exercises, and supports, in cooperation with our partner nations, counter transnational organized crime, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief efforts and the development of partner capacities, to promote regional cooperation and security in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

JTF-Bravo, as guests of Honduran host nation partners and the senior representatives for USSOUTHCOM at Soto Cano Air Base, maintains a forward presence and conducts and supports joint operations, activities, and investments throughout the Joint Operations Area in order to enhance regional security, stability, and cooperation. JTF-Bravo regularly partners with the partner nation Ministries of Health throughout Central America to provide various levels and types of medical care including physical therapy, trauma, preventive medicine, and dental.

We manufactured a unique custom challenge coin for them, with a sculpture of Honduran exotic animals on one side, and a nicely engraved Honduran ship on the other side. With the jaguar and the bird painted with colors for accent, the rest of the coin was left unpainted, only the brass color original material, brushed for the finishing touch.

FCI Elkton Challenge Coin

FCI Elkton Challenge Coin

FCI Elkton Challenge Coin

Federal Correctional Institution Elkton is a low-security federal prison located in Lisbon, Ohio. It is also known as FCI Elkton. Federal Satellite Low Elkton is adjacent to the main institution. Both federal prisons house male inmates. It’s a part of the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons, which is a myriad of inmate programs to address criminogenic needs such as those related to substance abuse, education, employment, and more, thereby ensuring inmates’ successful transition to the community.

The Bureau of Prisons was established within the Department of Justice on May 14, 1930, by the United States Congress, and was charged with the “management and regulation of all Federal penal and correctional institutions.” This responsibility covered the administration of the 11 federal prisons in operation at the time. By the end of 1930, the system had expanded to 14 institutions with 13,000 inmates, and a decade later in 1940, the system had 24 institutions with 24,360 incarcerated.

The custom challenge coin that they ordered from us was to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Elkton FCI and FSL. The main difference between the two is that the FCI is a low-security prison, while the FSL is a minimum security “camp”. It’s an elegant coin with the shape of the number ’20’, with a shiny brushed metal finish.
