The 312th Training Squadron is the Fire Academy at the Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas. Its mission is to train, develop, and inspire warriors to deliver Fire Emergency Services and Nuclear Treaty Monitoring for the Department of Defense and our international partners. And its vision is to be the DoD’s training source for Fire Emergency Services and Scientific Applications Specialists.

The squadron is part of the 17th Training Group, which is the largest of the four groups in the 17th Training Wing and consists of four squadrons, a detachment, and an operating location with over 1,000 staff and instructors, and is responsible for more than 320 initial skills, intermediate, and advanced courses per year, while graduating over 12,000 training Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), fire-rescue, and scientific applications professionals annually.

This awesome custom challenge coin was ordered by the 312th Training Squadron to be awarded by their commander. They requested a design with a modern feel, using their insignia engraved on one side, and etched a wolf paw mark on the other side, with the inscription ‘Wolfpack’ across it.

We used a matte silver-colored metal as the base of the coin and we only use the paint on the side with the insignia and on the ‘Wolfpack’ embossed lettering. The raw unpainted metal, without any machined patterns, gives this challenge coin a contemporary look.

Goldwater ANGB Challenge Coin

Goldwater ANGB Challenge Coin

Goldwater ANGB (Air National Guard Base), formerly Sky Harbor Air National Guard Base, is a facility of the United States Air National Guard that exists adjoining the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It was built as the result of a 99-year lease in 1949 and was rebuilt in the 90s to accommodate the creation of a third runway at the airport.

The Phoenix Sky Harbor Air National Guard Base was renamed Goldwater Air National Guard Base on December 9th, 2016, in honor of former United States Senator from Arizona and former Arizona Air National Guard member, Barry Goldwater. The Arizona Air National Guard’s 161st Air Refueling Wing is based there.

They commissioned the production of their custom challenge coin to us. They wanted a challenge coin that is up-to-date and modern-looking, even if it still is showing the original insignias.

So, we designed this coin to be more of a clean-looking one, with a minimum of classical patterns such as rope or leaves to be left out of the design. Instead, we machined a clean cut without patterns for the edge of the coin and used glossy paint without any textures for the colors. We’re happy with how ‘bright’ this challenge coin turned out to be.

Fish and Wildlife Officer Coin

Fish and Wildlife Officer Coin

Fish and Wildlife Officer Coin

Fish & Wildlife Officers provide the public with hunting and fishing information and protect one state’s diverse resources from poaching and overuse. They are required to carry and use firearms; they usually work alone and on weekends and holidays, and often work during the night. They patrol on foot, on horseback, by plane, in boats, and in a variety of vehicles.

Fish and Wildlife officers perform 2 vital functions: To help conserve and protect the province’s natural resources by ensuring everyone understands and complies with the laws meant to safeguard its natural resources and to ensure the public’s safety and protection of property in regard to wildlife. They investigate reports of violations, collect and preserve evidence, write reports, and testify in court.

This monochrome-looking custom challenge coin was requested by the Fish and Wildlife Police of Washington state. They requested to have their original insignia sculpted on one side, and have an engraving of an eagle, a stag, and a fish on the other side. We used a brass-colored metal for the base material of the coin.

As you can see in the photos, the engravings of the details on the insignia, the sculpted animals, and the rope pattern on the edge of the coin were etched beautifully.

Fireman’s Prayer Challenge Coin

Fireman’s Prayer Challenge Coin

Fireman’s Prayer Challenge Coin

The ‘FireFighter’s Prayer’, also known as the ‘Fireman’s Prayer’ is a poem that is written in almost all the fire departments or stations in the US. Alvin William ‘Smokey’ Linn originally writes it. Smokey Linn joined the Wichita, Kansas Fire Department in 1947 after returning from World War II. He retired in 1975 and became president of the local chapter of the Good Sam Camping Club. Linn passed away on 31 March 2004.

The poem’s depth and meaning are timeless. Smokey Linn wrote it after he’d been at a call involving children trapped in a burning apartment building. The firefighters could see the children in the windows but could not rescue them due to the iron bars that the apartment owner had installed. All they could do was try to contain the fire. About one in the morning, Smokey found himself sitting at the station’s kitchen table putting into words the emotions inside of him from that evening.

This custom challenge coin was ordered by the Fire & Rescue team of Maury County, Tennessee. They wanted a classical design of a challenge coin, with the ‘Fireman’s Fire’ to be engraved on one of the sides. We had to make sure that it was well machined and readable even if the letters are so small. On the other side, they asked for their insignia to be etched along with other elements.

CERT Challenge Coin

CERT Challenge Coin

CERT Challenge Coin

CERT or The Correctional Emergency Response Team is a voluntary unit made up of ninety (90) correctional officers whose mission is to neutralize disturbances, handle critical incidents, respond to incidents that require additional manpower, equipment, and specialized skillsets, and enhance teamwork outside the standard training and resources of line correctional officers.

The CERT Team of The Rhode Island Department of Correction is also utilized to assist with other contingencies which may arise at any of our facilities and to assist outside law enforcement agencies, when necessary. The members are specially equipped and trained and use only necessary and reasonable force to maintain good order and ensure sound security protocols. CERT consists of five specialized units; Chemical Munitions Unit (CMU), Less Lethal Team, Breaching Team, Weapons, and Marksman Observers.

We had the opportunity to build their custom challenge coin. The design concept was pretty simple: To have their insignia put on one side, and an image of crossed rifles and commander’s rank insignia on the other. Other than that, they didn’t request any additional aesthetic elements or patterns such as ones you usually see on a common challenge coin.

We used a brass-colored metal for the base material of the coin, and the colors used were only black for the base, and the colors of their insignia. It’s one brazen and straightforward challenge coin.
