SpaceX ‘Car in Space’ Coin

SpaceX ‘Car in Space’ Coin

SpaceX ‘Car in Space’ Coin

SpaceX is an American spacecraft manufacturer, space launch provider, and satellite communications corporation headquartered in Hawthorne, California. SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket (a heavy-lift derivative of Falcon 9) launched a test mission with a special payload on board: a cherry-red 2008 Tesla Roadster owned by Elon Musk with a spacesuit-clad dummy named “Starman” in the driver’s seat.

The car is perhaps SpaceX’s most absurd launch ever, but it had an important purpose. The launch was aimed at testing the Falcon Heavy, which ranked as the world’s most powerful operational rocket with around five million pounds of liftoff thrust. Musk used his personal car as a payload, kitted out with a dummy wearing a SpaceX spacesuit.

The Starman-Roadster duo completed its first orbit around the Sun in August 2019 and flew by Mars for the first time in October 2020, Observer previously reported. To date, the car has orbited the Sun 2.62 times.

SpaceX ordered a custom challenge coin from us to commemorate this launch. Surely they wanted something one-of-a-kind and an unusual challenge coin for an extraordinary mission. They requested the coin to be shaped like the Falcon Heavy rocket when it opened to dispatch the Starman. With a brushed silver finish for the rocket and a bright red paint for the car, this coin is truly an extraordinary one.

Operation Inherent Resolve Coin

One Mission, Many Nations.

Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) is the U.S. military’s operational name for the International military intervention against ISIL. Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve continues to work by, with, and through regional partners to militarily defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, in order to enable whole-of-coalition governmental actions to increase regional stability.

Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) is in Iraq and Syria to support the Government of Iraq and our Syrian partners as they secure the enduring defeat of Daesh. CJTF-OIR is the military component of a Global Coalition of 77 nations and 5 international organizations, who remain committed to the enduring defeat of Daesh in Iraq and Syria. CJTF-OIR is operating in Iraq at the request of the Government of Iraq and in Syria in support of a lasting political settlement.

This custom challenge coin that we made is ordered by the US Army’s Corps of Engineers, which also participates in Operation Inherent Resolve. They requested a special challenge coin which looks like a rectangular frame we use for photographs. They asked us to put some insignias and the map of Iraq on the sides of the coin.

Spring Hill Fire Dept. Coin

Spring Hill Fire Dept. Coin

Spring Hill Fire Dept. Coin

Spring Hill is a city in Maury and Williamson counties, Tennessee, located south of Nashville. Spring Hill was known nationally for the breeding of livestock, its rich pastures, agriculture, and for its dedication to quality education. Spring Hill is recognized as the 4th fastest growing city in Tennessee by the U.S. Census Bureau and is included in the Nashville metropolitan area.

Spring Hill was the site of the Saturn Corporation production facility, which operated from 1990 to 2007. The Saturn S-Series, Saturn ION, and Saturn VUE were produced there. In 2007, General Motors Corporation (GM), the parent company of Saturn, shut down the facility to retool it for the production of other GM vehicles and renamed it Spring Hill Manufacturing.

Spring Hill has gone through rapid development and growth in recent years, causing General Motors to reopen their auto plant and begin hiring locally again, which will hire 1,000 new people. In addition, companies such as Ryder and Goodwill have announced new facilities in the Spring Hill area.

We had the chance to build Spring Hill’s Fire Department a Custom Challenge Coin. While the design is somewhat unsophisticated and vintage, we can see from the photos that everything was crafted precisely and finished smoothly, making the coin a really handsome and elegant one.

SpaceX Challenge Coin

SpaceX Challenge Coin

SpaceX Challenge Coin

SpaceX, in full Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, an American aerospace company founded in 2002 helped usher in the era of commercial spaceflight. It was the first private company to successfully launch and return a spacecraft from Earth orbit and the first to launch a crewed spacecraft and dock it with the International Space Station (ISS).

SpaceX is a private, for-profit entity and thus is motivated to control expenses. It seeks both government and private customers, whereas NASA serves U.S. government interests. However, SpaceX’s largest customer is the U.S. government, primarily doing cargo runs to the ISS less expensively than NASA.

Building on the achievements of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets, SpaceX is working on the next generation of fully reusable launch vehicles that will be the most powerful ever built, capable of carrying humans to Mars and other destinations in the solar system.

When they asked us to build a custom challenge coin, they wanted something futuristic and one-of-a-kind, so the coin would represent the spirit of SpaceX. They want us to use the basic shape of Falcon 9, one of their famous rocket, to be used and the shape of the coin. They also asked us to engrave a colorful graphic image of the earth and its products flying above the atmosphere.

US Mint West Point Coin

US Mint West Point Coin

US Mint West Point Coin

The West Point Mint is a U.S. Mint production and depository facility erected in 1937 near the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, United States. The West Point Mint is one of the highest security mints in the nation. It’s both a storage and manufacturing facility. The mint at West Point is second only to the gold reserves held in secure storage at Fort Knox.

Of the four minting facilities in the United States, the West Point Mint is the nation’s newest facility. It was built in 1937 and established as a silver bullion depository in 1938. While it’s located close to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, the facility and the service academy are not related. Today, the mint only produces commemorative coins bearing a “W” mintmark and stores gold.

The US Mint Police requested us to design and manufacture a custom challenge coin for them. They wanted something classic and official, with just the insignias of US Mint Police and West Point Mint on both sides of the coin to be engraved and colored in detail. Using gold and blue as the main color scheme, we had to make sure that the finish would outline of the etched graphics and letterings.
