NTAG Houston Challenge Coin

Navy Talent Acquisition Group or NTAG, formerly known as Navy Recruiting Districts (NRD) recruits the highest quality men and women for service in the United States Navy’s enlisted and officer programs. NTAG Houston is the premier Navy Recruiting headquarters unit. a part of the Navy Recruiting Region Central. Their mission is to recruit the best, most qualified, and professionally resilient individuals for today’s and tomorrow’s Navy.

NTAGs are strategically located throughout the United States. The country is split into three regions comprising 26 NTAGs and 63 Talent Acquisition Onboarding Centers (TAOC). The Navy Recruiting Command, along with Regions West, Central, and East, headquarters are located in Millington, Tennessee.

NTAG Houston contacted us at Embleholics to craft their custom challenge coin. They wanted something classy and timeless, but also distinguishable. The basic design of the challenge coin was a common, brass-colored, round coin, but they wanted it to have handles so the coin would resemble the helm of a ship.

We have done hundreds of usual challenge coins, and for us to add some protruding elements to the basic coin shape was not a problem with our state-of-the-art equipment. You can see in the photos that we can engrave the image of Houston city with quite complex and tiny details.

NPTU FCPOA Challenge Coin

NPTU (Nuclear Power Training Unit) FCPOA (First Class Petty Officer Association) is an association for the US Navy’s First Class Officers who have finished the training program at the Nuclear Power School (NPS). NPS is a technical school operated by the U.S. Navy in Goose Creek, South Carolina as a central part of a program that trains enlisted sailors, officers, KAPL civilians, and Bettis civilians for shipboard nuclear power plant operation and maintenance of surface ships and submarines in the U.S. nuclear navy.

Following graduation from Boot Camp, enlisted personnel proceed to Nuclear Field “A” School for training in rating as Machinist’s Mate (MMN), Electrician’s Mate (EMN), or Electronics Technician (ETN). A few students from each NPTU class are selected as a Junior Staff Instructor (JSI) based on top academic performance throughout the program, evaluation for aptitude to be an instructor, and willingness to incur an additional 24-month service obligation.

NPTU FCPOA commissioned their custom challenge coin to us, and they wanted something unique and amusing. They wanted to have their mascot, an alligator in cartoon form, to be engraved on the front side of the coin. On the back side, they requested for symbols and insignias to be etched in a circling the NPTU logo which is embossed in the middle.

We also put chain relief for the rims and have both sides to be painted with glossy color. You can see in the photos that the result is one shiny, colorful, and cool challenge coin.

Nevada Highway Patrol Coin

Nevada Highway Patrol Coin

The Nevada Highway Patrol is a part of The Nevada State Police (NSP) also known as the Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS) from roughly 1949 to 2021, which is the state police and highway patrol agency of Nevada, with state-wide jurisdiction. The Nevada Highway Patrol issues its officers a variety of non-lethal weapons, such as tasers, pepper spray, and a baton.

Nevada Highway Patrol’s mission is to promote safety on Nevada Highways by providing law enforcement traffic services to the motoring public, and their vision is a united and diverse workforce providing statewide 24-hour service to the motoring public resulting in safer highways.

They contact us at Embleholics to build them a custom challenge coin. They wanted something classic but had a modern feel to it, such as a smooth rim and edge, without any carved patterns. Other than that, it’s a typical design of emblem and insignia reliefs on the sides of the coin.

We use a matte grey for the color, with some brushed effect finish for the coin’s base material. The reliefs and inscriptions were machined perfectly, and we carefully painted the small details with glossy colors. We made sure that the paint and coating covered the deep-etched graphics and inscriptions.

Navy Supply Corps School Patch

Navy Supply Corps School Patch

Navy Supply Corps School Patch

A military patch, officially called a morale patch, is a military ornamental insignia with humorous graphics and statements. They can be used as identification with a particular unit, such as a division or brigade, and are designed to build an esprit de corps with military personnel. British soldiers were the first to wear embroidered military patches in the 1800s but were only worn by officers to signify their higher rank.

The morale patch is usually not authorized directly by the military to be worn on an official uniform but can often be found on military clothing or gear. Patches became an effective way to distinguish between divisions in military units, and the idea soon spread to America. Before the Civil War, military uniforms were remarkably unadorned and void of any decoration.

While back then patches were sewed and embroidered manually, today they are mostly produced digitally. Computerized embroidery machines are specialized machines that can create embroidery from computerized designs. Such machines exist for the home market, for the small independent professional, and for mass production. Many home sewing machines can be turned into embroidery machines by adding a hardware module.

This one on the right is an example of the computerized moral patch that we made for the Navy Supply Corps School. With digital designing, we can print or embroider any type of graphics that you need.

The Navy Supply Corps School (NSCS), also known as the “Cradle of the Supply Corps,” is a 27-week training and “Basic Qualification Course” (BQC) in the United States located in Newport, Rhode Island. Its mission is to Provide students with the personal and professional foundations for success.

Those who complete the course become Commissioned officers in the Navy Supply Corps. Newly commissioned Supply Corps officers from the U.S. Naval Academy, Officer Candidate School, and Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, as well as limited duty officers or officers who have been re-designated into the community, attend initial training to prepare them to serve in the fleet in entry-level positions.

A lot of schools and academies have their own unique custom challenge coins, and we have done many of them over the years, so we’re pretty confident that we could produce any kind of requests for different shapes and details. This one made for NSCS was something of a classic challenge coin, with all elements such as reliefs and inscriptions etched to the surfaces.

The coin went through a digital design process and was machined with our up-to-date pieces of equipment to achieve the best quality of the engravings. This coin was coated in a gold finish and used white paint for the background on both sides.
