The El Paso County 911 District is a special purpose district, a government entity created by the voters in 1987. Its core mission is to establish, maintain, and administer the 9-1-1 system in El Paso County. The systems and services they provide, assist local public safety entities in the provision of their services to our communities.

The El Paso Regional Communications Center is home to the City of El Paso’s Police, Fire, and 311 Dispatch, as well as the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division, City/County Office of Emergency Management, Emergency Operations Center, and Fusio & Watch Centers. The El Paso County Enhanced 911 System is a cooperative effort of the El Paso County 911 District, City of El Paso, and County of El Paso.

We had the opportunity to produce a custom challenge coin for the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the El Paso Regional Communications Center, and the 35th anniversary of the El Paso County 911 District. They wanted something classic but also fun for the coin concept design, so we had to combine the characteristics of a common coin with more contemporary graphics.

The design of the base coin was pretty simple, with a clean edge and minimalistic inscriptions on the rims. On the center of both sides, we applied an embossed graphic design that was finished with some glossy paint for the coloring, and a sandy-textured surface for the background.

East & Central Pierce Fire Rescue Coin

Pierce County is a county in the U.S. state of Washington, with a population of around 920.000. It is the second-most populous county in Washington, behind King County, and the 60th-most populous in the United States. Pierce County is home to the volcano Mount Rainier, the tallest mountain in the Cascade Range.

Pierce County Fire Department has 21 districts to guard. Its mission is “In partnership with our community, we create a safer Fire District by providing the best possible fire and EMS services, protecting the lives, property, and environment of our citizens.” We had an opportunity to produce a custom challenge coin for the East Pierce Fire & Rescue (District #22) and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue (District #6).

They wanted a custom challenge with shiny gold as the base color. They also requested that the edge of the coin be smooth without any patterns, and they wanted an engraved image of their mascot, the Screaming Eagles, on the front side of the coin, and the inscribed insignias of both districts on the back side.

You can see in the photos that the eagle relief on the coin consists of many organic and thin lines. Luckily, we at Emblehlics have done similar designs in the past, so, a complex design like this could be executed on the production line flawlessly by our designers, craftsmen, and our state-of-the-art equipment.

Double Dumbass Tour Coin

The Greatest Generation is a comedy podcast about Star Trek: The Next Generation, hosted by Adam Pranica and Benjamin Harrison and distributed online by Maximum Fun. Once a week, hosts Benjamin Ahr Harrison and Adam Pranica watch an episode of Star Trek and tell you what’s great, what’s bad, and what’s hilarious about the show they grew up loving, and still do.

It is beloved by everyone from people who’ve never seen an episode to hardcore nerds who are fluent in Klingon. They also do a tour called ‘Double Dumbass Tour’ with their comedic review of Star Trek movies, bringing their unique blend of comedy and cinematic insight to the Star Trek film with the whales in it.

They wanted to have a custom challenge coin made for them that could represent the funkiness of the podcast and shows. They requested their faces to be sculpted as reliefs on one side of the coin, and on the other, they wanted a graphic design of a Klingon Bird of Prey, The Golden Gate, and a couple of whales, in one frame.

We had fun designing and producing this cool challenge coin. Firstly we had to make sure that they were happy with the overall design by showing them some mock-ups in 2D images. Once they had approved it, the design went into our computerized production machine so the final result would be just like the sample images.

Department of Veterans Affairs

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a Cabinet-level executive branch department of the federal government charged with supplying lifelong healthcare services to eligible military veterans at the 170 VA medical centers and outpatient clinics nationwide. Its mission is to fulfill President Lincoln’s promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors.

The origin story of the modern VA includes many previous entities and names dating back as far as the American colonies. Department of Veteran Affairs has not always been its name, they used to call it by many names such as National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Veterans Bureau, Bureau of Pensions, War Risk Bureau, and Veterans Administration.

The custom challenge coin that we crafted for them has a unique design. From afar it will look like an ordinary coin, but if you see it close enough you can see the hollowed-out parts which create a form of a badge, within the outline of the coin. They asked us to apply an engraving of the VA insignia on the front side and the Police emblem on the back.

The coin has a clean look with minimum decorations. The edge is smooth without any carved pattern, and the colors were only applied to some of the graphic elements of the insignias. It is finished with a golden brass color with a brush effect to add texture and shade.

Defense Logistics Agency or DLA manages the global supply chain, from raw materials to end user to disposition, for the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, 11 combatant commands, other federal agencies, and partner and allied nations. It is a combat support agency in the U.S. Department of Defense, with more than 26,000 civilian and military personnel throughout the world.

DLA is established in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and contains numerous offices responsible for supporting the overall agency. DLA’s major responsibilities are to buy or contract, warehouse when needed, and distribute about 5 million distinct consumable, expendable, and reparable items.

We were assigned to create and produce a custom challenge coin for DLA. They requested a challenge coin with a timeless design, something classic and classy. They only ask us to put their emblem and insignia on the sides of the coin and have it properly finished with glossy colors.

While it is a relatively common coin design, using glossy colors as the finish requires no room for error in the production and machining process. Every surface on the coin should be smooth, even the ones on the engraved graphics, so the glossy paint can be applied flawlessly. You can see a perfect example in this beautiful coin.
