Maxwell Air Force Base Coin
Maxwell Air Force Base is located at the home of a proud tradition of aviators and airpower advocates, dating all the way back to the Wright Brothers’ flying school, which was built on this site in 1910. Officially known as Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, is a United States Air Force (USAF) installation under the Air Education and Training Command (AETC).
Maxwell Air Force Base’s mission is critical to national security. It provides the foundation for success for Air University, the 908th Airlift Wing; the Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate; and more than 30 tenant units. With a population of more than 12,500 active duty, reserve, civilian, and contractor personnel, the Maxwell-Gunter community has a significant economic and cultural impact on the River Region.
We were contacted when the Maxwell Air Force Base wanted to produce a custom challenge coin for their Fire & Emergency Services unit. They wanted a challenge coin that was classy and elegant, yet would not look out-of-date.
The base material of this coin was a metal covered in a shade of color between brass and copper. The pattern etched to the rims of the coin was unique, something wavy and curved, creating a contemporary vibe compared to a common coin. The insignias sculpted on both sides were also perfectly machined and painted.
