Louisville SWAT Challenge Coin
A SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team is a police tactical unit that uses specialized or military equipment and tactics. The SWAT Team members are recruited, trained, and equipped to resolve critical incidents involving a threat to public safety. They respond to situations involving hostage takers, barricaded suspects, or other incidents that may involve a threat to human life where specialized training or equipment could be utilized.
On January 6, 2003, the Jefferson County Police Department and the Louisville Division of Police merged to become the Louisville Metro Police Department. This began a long journey to combine the two departments into one. Along with the new department came a new look, the badge and car were redesigned. City and county police officers chose from several proposed designs for their cars and uniform patches.
They commissioned this bold and straightforward custom challenge coin from us, and they wanted something modern yet still honoring their history. The concept is quite simple: An insignia of the Louisville Metro PD SWAT on one side and the more contemporary graphic on the other side. To keep the classic feel of a challenge coin, we use a brushed brass-colored metal as the base material, and we only use 3 colors to paint both sides of the coin.
