Fire department challenge coins are something that Embleholics care about. We work with local and nationwide firefighters to make them amazing coins. When we were contacted by the Boeing firefighters, we wanted to make something special since they were local to us.

Not a lot of design elements had to go into this coin. The customers provided us with their logo and wanted to keep the coin simple and professional. We suggested they make the front and back of the coin protrude out and have 3D elements to it, but nothing that really pops out of the coin’s plane. We did this by having the coin be a little more thicker than we normally make the coins, so that the normal 2D elements really could pop out and become 3D.

We also wanted to have a contrast from the colors on this coin. That’s why we included the deep dark reds that firefighters and fire departments love on their challenge coins. We contrasted the deep reds with the antique gold colors that you see in the finished design. This cause the logos and the crest really pop out to the viewer, a brilliant combination.

With all these design elements put into the coin we made a coin that is simple in design and look but complex in the thought process that went into making the coin perfect. It’s also a lesson into the concept to know where less is better; adding more to the coin can take away from great a coin can be.
