Coastal Riverine Force Coin
CORIVFOR or The Coastal Riverine Force is a unit of the United States Navy within the organizational structure of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC). NECC announced the official name change for all Coastal Riverine Forces to Maritime Expeditionary Security Forces (MESF) in 2020. While the Navy has a long history of operating in littorals and inland waterways, the Coastal Riverine Forces were established in 2005, in part to combat insurgents using such waters in Iraq.
Patrol Boat teams can trace their history back to World War II. Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Three rescued General Douglas MacArthur from the Philippines after the Japanese invasion and then participated in guerilla actions until American resistance ended with the fall of Corregidor. It’s now the umbrella organization for training and deploying sailors specializing in riverine ops, littoral missions, and port security, among others.
