1st Special Forces Group Coin
The 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) also called 1st SFG (A) is a unit of the U.S. Army Special Forces operating under the United States Pacific Command. It was constituted on the 5th of July 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 2nd Company, 1st Battalion, First Regiment, 1st Special Service Force, a combined Canadian-American organization. It was first activated on the 9th of July 1942 at Fort William Henry Harrison, Montana.
The group is responsible for operations in the Pacific and was among the first Special Forces groups of the United States Army. It is fashioned to deploy and execute nine doctrinal missions throughout the Indo-Pacific Command area of operations: unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, direct action, counter-insurgency, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, information operations, counterproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and security force assistance.
We were ordered to manufacture a challenge coin for the 1st Special Forces Group, and they asked for something simple and common-looking, but with details that are important and distinguished. The basic design for the graphics was a beret on one side, and an East-Asian-looking gate on the other.
This custom-made challenge coin that we crafted for them was something classic and timeless. With no paint or special coating, just plain rustic brass-colored metal. But see it from a close distance and you can appreciate the details and curves of the engraved letterings and graphics.
