VAQ-139 Challenge Coin
The Cougars of VAQ-139 (Electromagnetic Attack Squadron 139) became operational on 1 July 1983 under the command of CDR Richard A. Clark while flying the ICAP (Improved Capability) EA-6B Prowler. They specialize in electromagnetic attack and are currently stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington.
The EA-18G Growler aircraft they fly represents the most advanced technology in airborne Electronic Attack and stands as the Navy’s first line of defense in hostile environments. The EA-18G’s vast array of sensors and weapons provides the warfighter with a lethal and survivable weapon system to counter current and emerging threats.
The Cougars wanted an extraordinary custom challenge coin and they reached us and told us their ideas. They wanted a challenge coin in the shape of a cougar’s paw, decorated with some cool graphic designs and symbols engraved on it. We always welcome unorthodox and different ideas because they challenge us to create interesting and refreshing products.
This big-cat-paw-shaped coin was made to look more thrilling with a colored relief of a cougar on it. The illustration of a cougar was developed by our graphic designers and machined by our cutting-edge equipment. Same thing with the insignias and symbols on the back of the coin, they were all placed and inscribed beautifully.
