Port Angeles Fire Department Coin

Port Angeles, a city and county seat of Clallam County, Washington, United States, is the headquarters for nearby Olympic National Park and is known for its Salmon Derby. It is home to Peninsula College and the oldest U.S. Coast Guard station in the United States. Spanish explorer Francisco de Eliza dubbed the city’s harbor Puerto de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles (Port of Our Lady of the Angels) in 1791. Later, the name was shortened and partially anglicized to its current form, Port Angeles Harbor.

In February of 1891, the Port Angeles Fire Department originated as the Gate City Fire Company Number 1. The Port Angeles Fire Department offers station tours of its facilities and equipment to interested parties. Fire prevention and education is their main focus and they can provide lectures, demonstrations, and show fire safety videos.

We were given the task of producing the Port Angeles Fire Department’s custom challenge coin. They wanted a classic and timeless design of the coin, with only one color applied to it. On one side they wanted to have a city view of Port Angeles as a relief, and the emblem of the fire department on the other.

Using a dark brass-colored with a brushed finish, the result is a beautiful coin with a timeless, vintage vibe to it.
