SpaceX x NASA DM-2 Coin
NASA and SpaceX launched the first astronauts to the space station from the U.S. since 2011. After the Space Shuttle program was brought to an end in 2011, NASA no longer had a spacecraft system capable of sending humans to space. NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley flew on SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft, lifting off on a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A in Florida, for an extended stay at the space station for the Demo-2 mission.
Crew Dragon Demo-2 (officially Crew Demo-2, SpaceX Demo-2, or Demonstration Mission-2) was the first crewed test flight of the Crew Dragon spacecraft. The Demo-2 mission will be the final major step before NASA’s Commercial Crew Program certifies Crew Dragon for operational, long-duration missions to the space station.
We at Embleholics are happy that we were involved in this event by producing the commemorative challenge coin for NASA and SpaceX. The coin was designed to represent both institutions with some cool contemporary graphics engraved on the sides.
One side has an embossed graphic of the American continent, and on the other is an etched illustration of an astronaut. The names of the crews, Behken and Hurley also inscribed on the rim of the coin. The overall design was colored with red, white, and blue paint.
