Milford Fire Department Coin

The first efforts to organize a fire company in the city of Milford, Pennsylvania, occurred during the late 1920s or early 1930s, but for whatever reason never materialized. The money raised was used to install streetlights in the village of Milford Square. The next attempt to organize a fire company took place on July 23, 1945, when a meeting was held in the hall of the Milford Square Hotel.

Milford Fire Department operates an Engine, Rescue Engine, Heavy Rescue, Brush truck, Support truck, and an ambulance. Their members respond to about 400 fire, and 700 medical calls on average a year. It is staffed entirely by volunteers from the community that they serve. New members are needed, and welcomed, to help them provide critical services for their community. No experience is necessary, and all training and equipment are provided.

We had been trusted to craft a custom challenge coin for Station 33 of the Milford Fire Department. They wanted something classic and elegant but also requested that the challenge coin be used as a bottle opener. The only graphic element that they want to show is the insignia of a Maltese Cross with the number 33 in the middle of it.

To achieve the vintage look of the coin, it is important that the brass-colored metal be finished with some gradient of black paint, brushed to the surface to mimic the color of the patina on old antiques.
