Global Fishing Watch Coin

Global Fishing Watch is a website launched in September 2016 by Google in partnership with Oceana and SkyTruth “to provide the world’s first global view of commercial fishing activities. They believe human activity at sea should be common knowledge in order to safeguard the global ocean commons for the common good of all, so their purpose is to create and publicly share knowledge about human activity at sea to enable fair and sustainable use of the ocean.

The Global Fishing Watch map has allowed stakeholders to gain insights into how vessels behave, or misbehave, at sea. Turning data into action needs eyes in the sky and feet on the ground. They seek to sustain and scale our impact and grow the global community harnessing technology to revolutionize ocean stewardship.

The custom challenge coin that we built for Global Fishing Watch was ordered to represent their mission and their technological method, without being too prominent. The design concept was quite simple, just the logo on one side, and an image of the ocean map on the other.

To make the coin look modern and up-to-date, we chose more bright colors such as glossy ocean blue and white, with some red for accent. And we also used a more contemporary-looking font for the letterings.
