Navy Patrol Squadron 47 Coin
Patrol Squadron (VP-47) also known as the “Golden Swordsmen” is a Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol squadron based out of Whidbey Island, Washington, and is attached to Patrol Reconnaissance Wing 10. Its mission is to conduct Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance operations to defeat our enemies in combat.
They asked us to build an extraordinary custom challenge coin that takes inspiration from their insignia, which has an eagle and a golden sword. They wanted us to make something dynamic, as opposed to a ‘static’ ordinary round challenge coin. And they also requested that the coin could function as a bottle opener.
The design started with an image of a flying eagle and a golden sword. The idea is to have that one eagle to be shown on both sides of the coin, so the graphic on one side would be a mirror image of the other side. Makes the coin looks similar on both sides, but in detail they are different.
On the back side, the blue ribbon on the bottom is embossed with the “U.S.N.” lettering, while on the front side it has “VP-47″. And the front side also has the sword engraved in whole, with ‘Golden Swordsmen” inscribed on it.
