FLELOGSUPPRON FOUR ZERO Coin

Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 40 (VRC-40), also known as FLELOGSUPPRON FOUR ZERO, and also nicknamed the “Rawhides”, is a United States Navy fleet logistics support squadron based at NS Norfolk. VRC-40’s mission is to provide airborne logistics support to underway aircraft carriers and secondary missions as directed by Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic.

VRC-40 supports the fleet from ships and bases as far north as Norway, down the Eastern Seaboard and Gulf Coast, throughout the Caribbean, in Central and South America, and all over the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern theaters. They maintain and fly the squadron’s 14 aircraft, and have nearly 400 enlisted personnel, 31 officers, and 21 chief petty officers.

The insignia of VCR-40 is a cowboy riding a horse with a sunset background, over a sea with a Navy ship sailing in it. They asked us to take that image from their insignia to be fabricated into a challenge coin. And not just imprinting the graphic to the coin, but shaping the coin like the cowboy and the Navy ship.

It was a challenging task for us, but the result was definitely not your casual challenge coin. It’s a wonderful, one-of-a-kind, and distinctive custom challenge coin which really only the Rawhides can have.
