48th Infantry Challenge Coin
48th Infantry, the Dragoons, is an infantry regiment in the United States Army first formed in 1917. Its mission is a focal point for information and contacts on the 48th Infantry of all eras, with particular focus on those of the 3rd Armored Division (SPEARHEAD). The 48th Infantry was the “Pride of USAREUR”.
48th, 38th, and 23d Armored Infantry Battalions were relieved on 15 February 1957 from assignment to the 7th Armored Division and consolidated to form the 48th Infantry, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System, and withdrawn on 16 June 1989 from the Combat Arms Regimental System, reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System, and transferred to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command.
They wanted a custom challenge coin based on their insignia. So one side has their original ‘Dragoons’ insignia to be engraved, and on the other side, they have some letterings of the places they have been assigned, the muskets logo, and the insignias of the 3rd Armored Division (SPEARHEAD).
You can see from the photos that it’s a beautifully crafted challenge coin. All the designs are on the spot, the etching and embossing are all finely machined, and the painted colors are all flawless.
