Rhode Island C.E.R.T Challenge Coin
A correctional emergency response team (abbreviated CERT or CRT) is a team of specially trained prison officers tasked with responding to disturbances, riots, cell extractions, mass searches, and other situations in prisons that are likely to involve uncooperative or violent prisoners.
Possible duties of a CRT include transport of high-risk inmates, extracting uncooperative prisoners from their cells, daily full cell searches, and high profile security, barricaded persons, riots, mass arrest, high risk or high profile transport and hostages situations, as well as crowd control. In the United States, CRT organization and training requirements differ from state to state.
This good-looking and straightforward custom challenge coin was commissioned by the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC), a state agency of Rhode Island operating state prisons. It has its headquarters in Cranston.
They wanted something unsophisticated but bold and vigorous, so we use a raw silver-colored metal as the base material and have it painted with glossy black on both sides. And then we arranged the symbols such as the rifles, a grenade, a crowbar, a K9 unit, a nightstick, etc. as the graphical elements. The only thing painted with colors is the RIDOC emblem, and the other elements were all engraved but left unpainted.
