Alpharetta Firefighter Challenge Coin
The Alpharetta Fire Division responds to fires, accidents, and medical emergencies to protect life and property; participates in fire inspections, fire prevention activities, station maintenance, and training activities; and performs related work as required.
Alpharetta City Councilman John Hipes recalled that in 1991, Alpharetta had 12 firefighters and two fire stations for a population of 13,000. Today, the city has 99 firefighters and six fire stations for a population of 70,000. All members of the Fire Division are, first and foremost, firefighters trained and certified as EMTs or Paramedics. Many also receive advanced training and certifications and serve on one of our specialty teams in addition to being part of one of our two primary divisions, suppression and prevention.
They commissioned the production of their challenge coin to us, and they wanted something timeless, yet has a modern vibe to it. So we combined a classic basic layout of common challenge coin, with the more contemporary details and finish.
As normal coin goes, we put their emblem on one side, and the insignias of the armed forces on the other, and a bit of American flag ornaments and a bit of inscriptions on both sides. To achieve the modern look, we choose shiny silver colored finishing for the back side, and a diamond pattern with a bit of gold on the edge for the front. The font chosen for the letterings and the streamlined shaped flags as the accents help it to achieve a timeless, yet contemporary look.
