U.S. Marine Corps Acquisition Security Challenge Coin

In the Marine Corps, “Acquisition Security” refers to the policies, processes, and protective measures used to help ensure Navy and Marine Corps acquisition programs—including weapons systems, ships, aircraft, and IT systems—are developed, procured, and sustained securely. These measures help protect sensitive information, technology, and supply chains from unauthorized access.

For this project, we were asked to create a unique Marine Corps challenge coin for Acquisition Security. They wanted a traditional round coin that combined a classic Marine Corps-inspired appearance on one side with a more contemporary graphical design on the other. The result gave each side of the coin its own distinct character while still tying the overall design together.

Marine Corps Acquisition Security Challenge Coin Design

One side features traditional USMC-inspired elements, including a rope pattern around the rim, an embossed central emblem, and lettering arranged around the field of the coin. These details give this side a more traditional military challenge coin appearance.

The opposite side takes a more modern approach. A central logo is surrounded by a black-and-white battlefield illustration, using a largely monochromatic design to create contrast with the more traditional styling on the reverse.

This project is a good example of how two very different visual styles can be incorporated into a single custom challenge coin without making the overall design feel disconnected.
