WHAT ARE COAST GUARD CHALLENGE COINS?
According to some sources, the concept of challenge coins dates back to the Roman era, when soldiers who excelled in their duties would receive specially minted bonus coins. Later, different military units would carry coins and medallions that they could present to ensure recognition by fellow members.
Today, challenge coins have a deep, symbolic meaning. Members often receive such coins when joining a unit or their service ends. These coins usually feature imagery and symbols related to the service unit, its values, or a specific event.
