Embleholics has made a number of Navy Chief challenge coins, just a few of which are highlighted on our website. This particular Navy Chief Supply Corps challenge coin is a good example of how a broad initial concept can evolve through the design process into a much more refined finished coin.
With the initial design, there was quite a bit of empty space on the back of the coin, while the Supply Corps keys also appeared somewhat bulky. Through additional revisions, the design developed into a much cleaner and more balanced layout. The back in particular changed significantly, filling the available space and creating better consistency between the front and back of the coin.
Navy Chief and Supply Corps Symbolism
On the front of the coin, a goat dressed in Chief’s khakis serves as the centerpiece. The goat has a long association with Navy Chief Petty Officer tradition and is commonly incorporated into Navy Chief challenge coins.
Background lines and a rope edge around the inner circular portion of the coin add depth and detail without overwhelming the central artwork. On the reverse, we continued similar line and edge details while incorporating waves and blue enamel to reinforce the Navy theme.
Another major feature is the pair of keys, an important symbol associated with the Navy Supply Corps. Rather than simply placing the keys on the surface of the coin, they were created with 3D features and incorporated into the custom shape of the design. This gives the keys a much more substantial appearance and makes them an important part of the overall silhouette of the coin.
The combination of Chief heritage, Supply Corps symbolism, custom cutouts, 3D elements, rope edging, and Navy imagery turned this into a distinctive Navy Chief Supply Corps challenge coin.
