A “Thank You for Your Service” challenge coin is a token or medallion, traditionally given by civilians, organizations, or junior service members to active-duty personnel, veterans, or first responders as a tangible gesture of gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

Unlike most challenge coins, which are unit-specific and earned through membership or accomplishment, this type of coin is primarily an expression of appreciation. It is one of the most common “generic” challenge coins in circulation.

The symbolism that we can find in this type of challenge coin would be The American Flag, often a folded “funeral flag”, or a bald eagle clutching the flag, a soldier’s cross or battle cross (a helmet resting on a rifle with boots), silhouettes of soldiers, maps, or other patriotic icons, and symbols representing all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

This one we built is one of those kinds of custom challenge coins. With a simple concept of honoring the US Military personnel, the design idea was just an ordinary round-shaped metal coin engraved with an image of the United States flag on the front side, and the insignias of all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense on the back.

While the concept might sound simple, the design and production process were not. Our team of experienced designers needed to make sure that every graphical element was laid out nicely, and we needed to determine the finishes that needed to be applied to each surface before we delivered the approved final design to the production team.
