CVN 70 Challenge Coin
USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) is the third Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and is named in honor of Congressman Carl Vinson of Georgia. Along with deployments in Operation Desert Strike, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Southern Watch, and Operation Enduring Freedom, Carl Vinson has been involved in a number of notable events.
The keel was laid at Newport News Shipbuilding on 11 October 1975, and on 15 March 1980, the ship was launched. CVN 70 is designed for a 50-year service life, like each of the Navy’s aircraft carriers, When the air wing is embarked, the ship carries more than 60 attack fighter jets, helicopters, and other aircraft, all of which take launch and land aboard the carrier at sea.
The CVN 70 Chief Petty Officer’s Mess wanted a prestigious and artistic-looking custom challenge coin for their personnel. The design of the front side would be based on a navy compass and an engraved illustration of the ship fighting with a giant octopus on the back.
We always design the graphics and layout digitally and have it approved by our client before we go into production. Our state-of-the-art machinery can take almost any complex and small details, as you can see in the photos of this beautiful coin.
