The U.S. Army Rangers’ 2nd Battalion is part of the U.S. Army’s elite light infantry, known for specialized skills in airborne assault, airfield seizure, direct action raids, and reconnaissance. The U.S. Army Rangers have three battalions. The 2nd Battalion is one of them and is permanently stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, which was formerly Fort Lewis.

The Army’s elite Ranger units had been disbanded after the Korean War and again after the Vietnam War. In 1974, the Army decided it needed a permanent, dedicated Ranger force. The 2nd Ranger Battalion was officially activated on October 1, 1974, at Fort Lewis, Washington. This was not just a routine unit rotation; it was the creation of a new battalion from scratch.

We had the opportunity to produce a clean & simple yet intimidating custom challenge coin for the Rangers. The design concept was just a black challenge coin with the logo of the U.S. Army Rangers and the insignia of the 2nd Battalion on the sides of the coin. Without other embellishment, such as patterned rims or other graphical elements added to the design.

The base material that we use is a high-quality metal that can be laminated with virtually any colors that you can find on the color charts.
