The Roswell Police Department serves the community of Roswell, Georgia, just north of Atlanta. When the department contacted Embleholics about creating a custom challenge coin, they wanted something noticeably different from a traditional round police coin.
A Custom Shaped Roswell Police Challenge Coin
Rather than using the standard circular shape found on many law enforcement coins, this Roswell Police challenge coin was designed around a sculpted civic crown with a prominent star-shaped police badge at its center.
The custom shape immediately gives the coin a distinctive appearance. The organic curves surrounding the central badge create a much more complex silhouette than a conventional round coin while allowing the police insignia to remain the primary focus of the design.
Details within the badge and surrounding metalwork required careful attention during production. Small inscriptions, raised and recessed elements, and the different levels of the design all contribute to the dimensional appearance of the finished coin.
Custom Shapes for Police Challenge Coins
One advantage of creating a completely custom challenge coin is that the design doesn’t have to be confined to a standard circle. Police badges, shields, department insignia, state outlines, unit symbols, and other recognizable shapes can become part of the actual silhouette of the coin.
Custom shaping can be especially effective for law enforcement coins because it allows a department’s badge or insignia to become more than artwork placed on the surface. Instead, the shape itself can become an important part of the finished design.
Other options such as 3D relief, recessed areas, raised lettering, enamel colors, textured backgrounds, and different metal finishes can then be incorporated to create additional depth and detail.
