Boise Firefighter Challenge Coin

This firefighter challenge coin was a unique project for us because the Embleholics team is originally from Boise, Idaho, and we take great pride in creating something connected to our hometown. Designing challenge coins for firefighters is also personal for us. One of our longtime friends had a father who was a firefighter and gave up a great deal of his personal time to volunteer. He, like so many firefighters, sacrificed a great deal in service to his community.

When this customer reached out to us, we wanted to create something that was special to him while also representing the area. In this coin, you can see elements inspired by Idaho and its western character. We also wanted the design to clearly represent the fire service and the firefighters themselves.

One of those elements is the St. Florian Cross, a symbol strongly associated with firefighters. Rather than simply placing a standard version of the cross on the coin, we incorporated it into the old-school western character of the overall design.

The St. Florian Cross is commonly used as a symbol of protection, service, and honor throughout the firefighting community.

On the front side of the coin, a firefighter walks away from flames in the background. Different shades of red, white, and yellow give the fire additional depth, while the firefighter is rendered in black to make the figure the primary focus of the design.

This coin was produced for a special event and presented as part of a celebration recognizing the firefighters and their service.
