This Navy Bottle Opener Challenge Coin is a great example of how creative we can get with a functional challenge coin design. This coin was created for the Mustangs aboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) and incorporates a bottle opener directly into the shape of the coin.
One side features a Mustang appearing to come forward from the surface of the coin, creating additional depth in the design. The opposite side incorporates the CVN-68 battle flag. Combining these elements with the bottle opener created a challenge coin that was both distinctive and functional.
Designing a Navy Bottle Opener Challenge Coin
There are countless challenge coin designs out there, which is why we try to make each project distinctive to the organization receiving it. With this USS Nimitz coin, the Mustang imagery, ship-related symbolism, custom shape, and functional opener all work together to give the coin its own identity.
You don’t need to come to us with finished artwork either. Some customers already know exactly what they want, while others have a collection of symbols, photographs, unit imagery, or general ideas. Our art team can take those elements and develop them into a challenge coin design.
If the first concept isn’t quite right, we can continue revising the artwork. Sometimes that means making relatively small changes, while other projects take an entirely different direction before arriving at the final design.
Adding a Bottle Opener to a Challenge Coin
A bottle opener can be incorporated into many different areas of a challenge coin depending on the shape and artwork. We can also use different opener styles, including hook-style bottle openers, when they work better with the overall design.
The goal is to make the opener feel like part of the coin rather than something simply attached to it. Custom shapes, cutouts, 3D artwork, raised and recessed metal, enamel colors, and different finishes can all be used around the functional portion of the design.
This makes bottle opener challenge coins particularly useful for military units, Chief’s Mess projects, squadron events, commemorative coins, retirements, reunions, and other occasions where something a little different from a traditional round coin is wanted.
Custom Navy Challenge Coins
Embleholics has created custom coins for units and organizations throughout the U.S. military. Navy projects in particular give us plenty of opportunities to incorporate ships, aircraft, warfare insignia, ratings, unit symbols, mottos, and other elements of Navy heritage into the artwork.
You can see more examples and design options on our custom Navy challenge coins page.
If you have an idea for a functional coin, we can also help determine how features such as a bottle opener can be incorporated without sacrificing the artwork or symbolism that makes the coin unique.
