The American Legion is one of the largest veterans service organizations in the United States, with local Posts bringing veterans and their communities together across the country. The American Legion Riders (ALR) extends that tradition through members of the Legion family who share an interest in motorcycling, support for veterans, and community service.
We had the opportunity to create a custom American Legion challenge coin for the American Legion Riders of Deveraux Post 141. The design combines recognizable ALR imagery with details representing Michigan and the organization’s identity.
Designing the American Legion Riders Challenge Coin
The coin features a matte, antique gold finish that lends the design a traditional appearance. One side features a sculpted eagle design representing the American Legion Riders, while the opposite side depicts Michigan in red, white, and blue enamel, inspired by the American flag.
Texture was an important part of this project. Rather than leaving the surrounding metal completely smooth, textured areas were incorporated into the design to create contrast against the raised and recessed elements. The combination of sculpted metal, enamel color, and surface texture gives the finished coin considerably more depth without overcrowding the design.
Custom Coins for Veterans and Motorcycle Organizations
Challenge coins are a natural fit for American Legion Posts, veterans organizations, and motorcycle groups because they can represent membership, service, special events, memorials, fundraising rides, and organizational milestones.
Designs can incorporate Post numbers, organizational emblems, motorcycles, state outlines, military symbolism, memorial elements, and other artwork meaningful to the group. Different metal finishes, textures, enamel colors, shapes, and dimensional elements can also be used to make each project distinctive.
