the story behind the coin
The Secret Service was founded in 1865 to prevent criminals from producing counterfeit money. Within their first year on the job, Secret Service agents shut down over 200 plants responsible for counterfeiting money.
Today, some Secret Service agents continue to investigate crimes that could impact the country’s financial infrastructure. But nearly half the Secret Service’s 8,300 employees spend their days providing protection for the President of the United States of America. They also watch over the Vice President, former Presidents, and other important American leaders.
Secret Service challenge coins celebrate the accomplishments of these agents who put their lives on the line to protect prominent people every day. They continue the tradition that military members established in World War I when they first started carrying around challenge coins.
Custom Secret Service challenge coins are also made specifically for the agents in charge of devising Secret Service code names for America’s elite. They often include special touches, such as the Secret Service badge and agency motto, “Worthy of Trust and Confidence.”
