This custom-designed challenge coin was created to honor the elite professionals of the U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community – highly trained specialists who confront the world’s most dangerous explosive threats so others can operate safely. EOD technicians are entrusted with locating, identifying, rendering safe, and disposing of explosive hazards ranging from small ordnance to complex improvised devices and even nuclear weapons. Their mission spans air base protection, counter-IED operations, support to Special Operations forces, WMD response, and VIP protection, making them indispensable to the success and safety of Air Force operations worldwide.
To reflect the unit’s professionalism and heritage, the client requested a coin that was both classic and understated. We crafted a sleek black design featuring clean, straight-edge lines to deliver a modern, refined aesthetic while preserving traditional symbolism. On one side, the U.S. Air Force emblem is prominently embossed, while the opposite side showcases the iconic EOD unicorn mascot, both rendered with crisp detail and depth. Encircling each graphic, the precisely machined inscriptions are filled with service-specific colors: Air Force blue on one side and EOD red on the other, creating a striking yet balanced contrast.
