Ask these ten questions before you commit. A supplier who answers all of them in specifics is usually the right one, and vagueness on any of them is the warning sign.

  1. What is the total delivered cost at my exact quantity? Not the per-coin price. Quotes between suppliers are rarely comparable until freight and any tooling fee are included.
  2. Is there a separate mold or setup fee? If yes, how much, and is it waived on reorders?
  3. What is your minimum order? A published number, not “flexible”.
  4. How long does production take, and from what point? “45 to 50 days from artwork approval” is useful. “Four to eight weeks” is not.
  5. What does artwork cost, and how many revisions are included? A revision cap quietly pressures you to approve a coin you have doubts about.
  6. Will I see a proof before anything is manufactured? The answer must be yes.
  7. Who is responsible if the coins do not match the proof?
  8. Do you keep the mold, and for how long? This decides what a reorder costs.
  9. Can you take my payment method? Purchase card, purchase order or Net 30, checked before you design rather than after.
  10. Can you show real customer projects? Named work, not stock renderings.
