U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Challenge Coin

This custom Air Force EOD Challenge Coin was created to honor the elite professionals of the U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community—highly trained specialists who confront dangerous explosive threats so others can operate safely.

EOD technicians are entrusted with locating, identifying, rendering safe, and disposing of explosive hazards. Their mission includes air base protection, counter-IED operations, support to Special Operations forces, WMD response, and VIP protection, making them an important part of Air Force operations worldwide.

Designing the Air Force EOD Challenge Coin

For this project, the client wanted a custom Air Force challenge coin that was both classic and understated. We created a sleek black design featuring clean, straight-edge lines to give the coin a modern appearance while preserving the traditional symbolism important to the EOD community.

One side prominently features the U.S. Air Force emblem, while the opposite side showcases the EOD unicorn mascot. Both were produced with detailed embossed metalwork to give the designs additional depth and definition.

Surrounding each design, precisely placed inscriptions incorporate service-specific colors, with Air Force blue used on one side and EOD red on the other. Against the dark metal finish, these colors create a strong contrast without overwhelming the central artwork.
