The Rockettes’ 100th anniversary was more than a celebration — it was a moment of reflection. While the centennial marked a century of performances, the Alumnae Association itself has been fostering connection and continuity since the 1950s, long before “legacy branding” became a buzzword.
As planning for the anniversary began, the Alumnae Association wanted a way to honor every Rockette — past and present — equally. Not just the headliners. Not just the current generation. All of them.

In 1956, Rockettes founder Russell Markert created a seal that captured the essence of the organization. Around its edge: figures representing Rockettes standing shoulder to shoulder, equal in form, unified in purpose. No one dancer elevated above another. One line. One standard.
That seal became the emotional and symbolic foundation for the commemorative coin.

The finished coin tells its story the moment it’s picked up.
On one side, a centennial banner marks 100 years of excellence — a clear acknowledgment of the milestone being honored. On the reverse, the historic Markert seal anchors the design in tradition.
But the most powerful detail lives along the edge.
Encircling the coin are small, repeating Rockettes figures, forming a continuous ring. No beginning. No end. Each figure identical in size and placement. Each one necessary to complete the whole.
It’s a subtle detail — and an intentional one.
This edge design mirrors what the Rockettes have always represented: individuals becoming one through discipline, trust, and shared purpose. The same way dancers move as one on stage, the coin brings every alum into a single, unbroken circle.

Following the centennial celebrations in New York City — including a week-long series of events and a gala that brought together many alumnae — the coins were distributed to members as a commemorative gift. For many, it was the first time seeing the design in person.

Alumnae described the coin as something they couldn’t wait to show family members. Something that instantly communicated belonging — even to those who had never seen a Rockettes performance firsthand.
